Popping The Body of a Tri Year

I am getting ready to pop the body off the frame on my 55' sedan. Any tricks or helpful advice?

Pretty straight forward. Unbolt the body, electrical, and steering column and box. and lift if off. we use are swing arm lift to take the body off the chassis. makes it very easy. one guy can do it this way.

Very cool! Are you doing it in 1 piece or taking off the front clip first?

Recently I helped my buddy do this the steering shaft was our only hang up. The shaft is built into the box. The box has to be removed to get the shaft out of the column or the body has to go up and back quite a ways to clear it.

If you want to get it done fast all at once what you should really do so your not overwhelmed is keep it on the road a while as you take every body bolt and clip bolt out one at a time and put it back in with never seize. There are probably going to be body bolts and clip bolts that are going to be a bitch to get out that you will need to spray with wd-40 for several weeks. This way you can keep the car on the road and use it those several weeks those bolts need to soak (or at least not have it apart) instead of having bumpers, clip pieces and bolts stored all over the garage or wherever those weeks. I thought I'd tell you this because some guy told me typically 75% of people who take apart there cars like that never get it back together because they become overwhelmed so you should know what your getting into.

The car has been in pieces for years as I've been building other toys...so now it's time to start this.

I'll have to check and see if they sell a complete hardware kit for the car...I am sure some of these bolts will come out with rounded heads!

Use a 6 point socket.

Use Blaster... found to work better breaking bolts loose.

Yep Vince has it. It is a mostly white can with yellow highlights.... heard the sales pick at a swap meet a few years back. "Spray it on and about the time it takes to enjoy a beer go back to break it loose!"
