How much bigger is a 4L80E than a 700R4
We were wanting to put one in our 67 El Camino but, the local trans shop said it wouldn't fit. Anybody know the truth? Thanks, Andy

I think I would find another trans shop. Seriously though an 80E will fit anywhere a TH400 will fit and I dont see where there would be any problems putting one in an elky. An 80E is longer however so the crossmember will need to be move rearward a few inches as well as the drive shaft shortened.
Ive actually seen a site that has the length measurements on the various transmissions but dont have it handy so a google search would prolly turn up that info pretty easily.
BTW, if this is a moderately powered small block vehicle that does not see regular track duty then a well built 700 would prolly be sufficient and deffinately quite a bit cheaper. My .02 FWIW.GMC Syclone (currently wrecked thanks to the typical rubber headed VA driver not paying attention to his red stop light...oh and he didnt have insurance either)
