What car are you installing the dash in?

Hey Mr. quick or Camaro A.J
Great pics of exactly what I need to do...Im going out tonight to try and fab in my dash... and that windshield filler piece..great info on the wiring also THANK YOU
how did you mount the dash ie: brackets any pics??
Any current measurements of....how far forward dash sits, or from floor pan to top of curve on drivers side??
I'm 6'4" and want the dash as close to windshield as possible.
On the back of my dash are factory tabs...Iwas thinking of cutting these off to gain a couple of inches closer to the glass but then how should I mount..It almost just bolts in as is right now..

I'd hate to say it cause I know how Poncho guys can be...but it a 69 Firebird. Would it be better if I told you the Camaro dash was just for mock up and i'll looking for a WS-6 one?

As far as mounting its real easy, just support in the position you want it to be and make a row of brackets along the top, a 4 inch wide bracket down on top of the trans tunnel then a left and right below the A piller about knee level. We own a 2001 Camaro so its easy to find out where you would want it to sit.

Don't cut them tabs skinny, you will need them...I set it up so the fuse box door edge is parallel with the A pillar. Need more room just mount your seat farther back.

No No, if it were a ram air car or a t/a then I might object. To each his own.

I was looking at your webpage. If the dash is still in can you take pic of the front side, curious how large of a space there is.

I am planning a pro tour project in a 69 gto.

Just curious, if you like 67 camaro's why would you ever put a 98 dash in it? I don't know why you like the 98 dash but if you want tilt steering with the dimmer switch on the turn signal lever why don't you just put in a different column? Or if your sick of looking at the same tach and speedometer why don't you just put one of those flat screen monitors with one of those computer kits so you can change the look for every trip if you want? Wouldn't this be easier? Way better than a 98 in my opinion.

...its not what is easiest its what is what some like to look at while driving. Whats so hard about installing a 4th gen dash anyways?

For me I love the look of my 2000 Z28 dash, how it flows and the gauges at night. Im using an Ididit column.

I think that is what modern hotrodding (pro touring) is all about. No matter how you install aftermarket gauges it still looks cobbled together unless it is a full on custom dash or insert.

For me this cures that, modern switches, cruise and most important cup holders.

This trend is actually good for the enviroment as opposed to putting older engines in newer cars, just the reverse is happening and stil getting very good performance with acceptable fuel economy (20 +).

1 Have A 2000 Trans Am Ebony Black Dash Etc..

If anyone is interested I have a 2000 ebony black transam console, dash, and door panels all from the same car. I was going to use it in another camaro but took on a 65 fastback project instead so it has to go. PM me if you are interested. I will consider all serious offers on it. It is gorgeous!!

I don't see anything wrong with doing this but I still have a hard time understanding why someone would do this now. I mean isn't it too late to do this with a 98 dash? He's going to finish now and it will already seem like something from 1982 inside something from 1957, people will be like "where is the dash from 1957? put it back in." If he's going to do this doesn't he need a fresher dash to put in to make it all worthwhile?

i forgot all about this thread. i don't have any measurments from my install or pictures of the brackets. here is one of the mock up pictures

you can kinda tell how close the dash is to the fire wall. a tall guy can get in my car easy and be comfy. if you get the dash too close to the fire wall you'll have problems with the filler pannel and the windshield because of the hump where the cluster is.

Some would like to keep it F-body, my dream dash would be a C5 with the heads up display. Way out of my price range. $800++

1998-2002 are the same so until a new Camaro comes out we will have to wait...so far this is a nice alternative and now becoming cheaper to do.
Back in 2003 Camaro dashes when for $700-800, consoles where fetching $200-300.
We are seeing more in the wrecking yards to salvage from. I'd like to do one from a newer GTO but prices are still high...you can find 1998-2002 Camaros dashes for around $200-300 dollars and GTO dashes are still fetching $600+. The Grand Am dashes are nice too but then again hard to find used.

Its classic hot rodding, use what you like and can get your hands on.

Very interesting, so I guess it is common for people to do this? Is it tyically done to just 60's camaro's or a lot of things? Is there anything wrong with a 60's dash that really makes a person want to do this? Do the speedometers typically not work well? Are the odometers noisy? Is it flimsy? Or is all this done just to make a 60's car look late modelish?

I don't know? why do people still use stick welders when migs are easier to use? Preference. I guess some just don't like change.

One word...Cup holders. To quote Yody "This is pro-touring not pro- restorations". "Smile and enjoy the ride" < that was me.

So your not objecting to it in practice but the dash being used?

I suppose an F-body guy can use a 2006 camaro dash so he using a newer dash.

98-2002 is as modern as they come with the exception of the c5-c6. I have tried to get a width measurement on a c5 dash with no success. None in the junk yards near me.

FWIW- I spent a few hours at the junk yard on Sat until it started to rain. The 3000gt dashes are 54" wide if somone needed more side to side clearance. As noted above the 4th gen are 55" and 3rd gens are wider like, 56-57".

take a peek at them grand am dashes, 1999-2006. 54" and resemble a 1st gen...sort of. Make some nice gauge pods out of the center ac ports. Nice filler top and 10 mounting bolts.

Thats right, not objecting to the practice but the dash. I don't know much about late models but what do you mean 98-2002 is as modern as they come?

yeah, they stopped making the Camaros in 2002. In my opinion everything got a bit flat looking after that. The newer Vettes (corvette) are very nice looking but the prices are astronomical.

I was being sarcasitc about a newer car.

I found out today that a new GTO dash is 55" wide as well.
