Hey Mark thats the wonderful DexCool crap. Service your cooling system every spring and you wont have that issue. I see hundreds of GM cars with DexCool issues, one of the inhibitors in it is a plastisizer and softens the plastic frames holding the gaskets(silicone seals) and the working of disimilar metals all make for some gasket issues.
As long as its in warranty from GM use true dexcool not one of the universal ones that "will fit" as they will fight each other just like the Dex and Green will.
After the warranty is gone simply Give Evan Cooling a call and get some NPG-R and some flush and switch it over. That never needs changed and has a boiling point of 375 F and thats with no pressure on it it will go over 400F with a pressure cap.
But you should wait till it gets out of driveline warranty. GM gives horror stories about it but it works fine if you use it properly.
Till then mix Dex properly and change it more often that the BS 5 yr 150k miles. AND only top with Dex.
As for mleage, proper tuning, tune ups (yes even though they want serious dollars for the plugs) do a tune at about 60 to 70 k or as soon as mileage starts to drop.
My boss is selling a product called Velocity, its a wear trewatment and seems to be a very good product, I dig up the web site and post it. I have 2 engine freshened and going to dyno for retest and we ill add it to one and see if it makes a big difference like it says.
But switching all of your lubes to synthetics if not there already. Add some free flowing air ducting and exhaust can help some.
      Good Luck

I have three GM cars that came form the factory with Dex Cool and none of the run it or will as long as I own them. I HATE the crap and besides screwing up cooling systems, it is more expensive.

Hey Mike, you share my point exatly BUT I am a firm believer in the Evans Cooling NPG-R (well I think its R it maybe Plus) as we pulled soem out of one of my customers race car. hadnt seen this engine since 99 and its still going but getting weak, he races it still but had 9% leak down so its getting slow on him, but it still isnt sucking in oil thanks to his crankcase vacuum system we built, and it gave him 35 more hp with big pully. He told me that as it gets weaker and needs freshened he has simply added smaller and smaller pulleys as he ver quite found a shop out in Cali that suited him and he wasnt keen on shipping it back to Indiana os it goes in for a freshen up in a month as we decided to take it up to the the bore it was supposed to be. We built an engine and the pistons came in 060 under and luckily I hadnt got to buddies shop to bore it and we only hasd to take out 010 and hone to fit so he ordered off the shelf pistons and it will be its "stock" bore. And still have plenty for later on if the block lives.
Kind of cool when you can bore a blosk to "stock" bore.
Anyway he pulled out a few ounces and we had it tested to see if it was broke down compared to the half gallon he had left that he used to keep it topped. and the guy at the lab asked why we sent 2 samples identicle,,so it works. The NPG-R works in smaller tube rads too.
As for mileage I sold a bottle of Velocity to friend to put in his sisters car and his and he says his Nova engine is sounding much better and seems to have more power.

I wish I had an SS. I was having trouble with my inline 6. So now I have a new 02 sensor and a cleaning to the TB so now I can keep track Of my MPG.

The Trailblazer started out as an inline-6, 4.2l, then got the 5.3/6.0 (SS) V8s. the 5's & 4's of the same family (Atlas) are in the Colorado/Canyon vehicles.

These engine love the standard free-flowing exhaust and CAI's. You should see an improvement with the exhaust alone, as the factory makes the ports and manifolod passages relatively small. Not like a SCJ head, that's for sure!

Well I just had to work on a Trailbalzer the other day.
Look and see if the manifold bolts are silvery color if so you need to swap out the manifold gasket and bolts with updted ones, I dont know if they are covered under warranty but it will leak air into the ex system and trash the converter.
This one had EVERY bolt loose except the very back on has completely lost its head, broke off.
Lady had to replace the converter and then I did the manifold gasket too. Also I would lookaround and see if anyone has an EO numbered header as the stock manifolds is VERY thin after being milled.
I also used good flat washers under the GM replacent bolts because of the milling and I used a 8x1.5 tap and cleaned every bolt hole out as they will lock up and break bolts or trash threads and the fix is a helicoil and in car if its a back one its a bitch.
A good free flowing hearder and exhaust would help them greatly.
Also the leak wont be very noticeable but its there and can cause big problems if you just try to tighten the bolts and they are loose get it replaced and fast.

Envoy XUV, 4wd, 5.3, 3.73 rear end. Great package.

I get 19-20 MPG in mixed driving. On highway trips about 22. Hardly ever sees over 2000 RPM. At 75 MPH it's at 2200 RPM.
