      Power for electric water pump?

For those of you running an electric water pump. Where do you get the power for it? Obviously this power will energise a relay that powers the pump, but do you get the power for a fuse panel circuit that is hot when the key is in the run position, or from a oil pressure switch when a certain pressure is reached, or other?
      Thanks

You could use the temp switch for your electric fans to activate the relay.

I would rather NOT have the electric water pump on an on/off switch like the fans. I do not want hot spots from the water setting in the block. The fans are ran from the temp sensor used by the LT1 PCM, the PCM controls the fans.

I installed a new wiring harness in my Camaro and used the fuse that was for the electric fuel pump. I ran it through a switch also just so that if I wanted to run the electric fan without the car running and without the water pump I could. My fuel pump is ran off the relay board that I put together for my MegaSquirt fuel injection. This might not help you out in your situation, but just thought I'd throw it out there.

That had crossed my mind too. Powering two relays from the signal to energize the fuel pump. One for the fuel pump, one for the water pump.
      Thanks,

You could use a DCC controller.

I think moroso makes a thermostat kit for electric water pumps. I had mine hooked up to key on power. The swithch has 3 positions. On, Off, And Thermostat. Pretty cool setup.

I ran the original ignition wire to the front of the car where it energizes a 70 amp Bosch relay and fuse panel. This powers my electric water pump, fan, and MSD ignition. I wanted everything to turn on and off using just the key. It’s all mounted inside the aluminum box under the fan controller (see photo).

I would have an issue with that. All those accessories running while your trying to crank your car. Or did you hve the fans and pump on a thermostat?

The water pump pulls 12 amp and is on all the time. I did not want to have a manual switch and cook the motor or kill the battery due to forgetfulness. The fan is rated at 35 amps and is temperature controlled (spall controller) to kick on at half speed at about 180. I have a 140 amp alternator and optima battery. Never had a problem with cranking over the motor.

that would be the proper way to do it. that way the water pump is only running when the engine is actually running. if you want to be able to turn it on with the engine off just wire in a switch.

check out this site for tips on how to wire it. Its for an LS1 but you can easily adapt it to your application.
