Engine Swaps for California Members
I'm trying to gather information on how some of you dealt with the DMV and CARB (California Air Resources Board) after you did an engine swap. Does the DMV certify your engine swap to help you avoid future issues when registering the vehicle with an engine that didn't originally come with said vehicle. I picked up an 83 Elco with no motor or smog equipment and would like to put an LS2 in it. I would hate to be derailed because of a non correct year motor and smog equipment issues. Basically I want to have a legit swap without having problems each year registering and smogging the vehicle. Any info or leads in the right direction would definately help.

You're going to need ALL the emissions equipment off the LS1 car and be prepared to become friendly w/ the DMV inspector(s).
Once everything is certified, they'll give you a foil sticker that goes in your door jamb.
I only know this from a 73 engine into a 68 car, but I'm sure it's going to be the same thing now.
