Taking Autometer gauges apart

Anyone know how to disassemble an Autometer gauge? I have a trans temp gauge for my truck but I would like it to match my factory gauges. I can make the gauge face very easily in Photoshop, but I am having difficulty in figuring out how to take the Autometer gauge apart. Anyone done this or have any ideas?

Years ago I wanted to diesect and Autometer shift light so I could have the light hidden in the dash and remote mount the shift pills. I was having a hard time finding an elecrical connection they use so I decided to call them up. I told the guy what I was doing and he just sent me what I needed. You never know you might get lucky with help from them if you call them direct.

i think it depends on the autometer you have (ultra-lite, phantom, etc), but when i tried disassembling my arctic white autometers, I couldnt because the crhome ring is crimped to hold the thing together im not sure how yours is though. Some you cant disassemble without destroying them.

I took the movement section from an Stewart Warner gauge years ago to do the same thing you are. I just cut the plastic outer housing away to get the movement. I found the easiest way to hold the movement in the factory gauge pod was to silicone it to the factory gauge face. Start the car, get it to operating temp/thermostat open, and re-install the needle according to the face temperature reading. The sweep angle of the new and old gauges must be the same.

Well I got one apart and it's much easier than I thought it would be. The ring is crimped on but all you have to do is get a small screwdriver under the ring on the backside and gently pry up around it. It will eventually pop off.
