It's probably the best handling car I've ever driven and it's like a big slot car. Frank Stagnaro owns it and did most of the prep work himself and has owned the Mustang (no, it's not a real GT350) since 1968 or so. He's autocrossed it since the early '70's if I remember correctly. Very competitive CP car and it was very easy to drive. Just point, shoot, and steer around cones. The Mustang didn't feel "big" and drove "small."

It's been 25 years since I first drove that car (man, I feel OLD!!!) and it's a completely different car now. Back in '82, it still had the warmed over 289 and OEM configured suspension (leafs, etc.) but now everything's fully adjustable and coil-over, plus the engine's built to the limit of the rules. Remote brake reservoirs, lightened chassis, the works. For CP, the rules have changed to allow tube-frame cars (10% weight added for penalty), V6 cars can run around 2500 lbs, and most of the V8's are between 2800-3000 lbs. These are now specialty cars that have had lots of good technology and serious coin spent on them.

Frank flirted with the CP championship title many times before he finally won!!! Back in 1982, he should have won hands-down but a pesky pylon cost him the title. Since then, the Mustang has many CP and CPL championships with several drivers. I won twice in the car and Frank's significant other, Barbara Ogg, has a couple CPL wins as well. Great car that is easy to be driven well!!

      Cheers,
      Mary Pozzi
