68 Camaro - 18" Wheel Fitment Question

Hi,

First off... I am new to the board. This looks like a great place with a lot of information. Glad to be a member!




My Car...
I have a 68 Camaro RS/SS Big Block that has been restored with all stock suspension and sits at stock ride height.

My Plans...
Suspension:
DSE 2" Drop Front Coils and DSE 3" Drop Rear Leafs.

Wheels:
Torque Thrust II Wheels
Rear // 18x10 // 275/40/18 BFG g-Force KDs
Front // 18x8 // 245/40/18 BFG g-Force KDs

My Question...
What backspacing will I need to go with for these wheels? Will the tire size I have listed above work? Can I go wider on front tires w/o rubbing?

I am sorry if this question has already been answered somewhere on the board. I have looked around a little and have not found any solid answers related to the setup listed above.

If it's an option, I'd look at running an 9.5" on the rear.
A larger tire up front is possible, but you're going to have to do some work (likely tubular UCAs and Baer Tracker Tie Rods), you'll have to dial out some steering (easy with SpeedTech LCAs).
I'll know more in a few weeks on mine, but read CarlC's website. His 275/40/17 is the same diameter as a 275/35/18. And search 275/35/18 and 275/40/17 on this site. There's some good reading material.

As for backspace, you're really going to want to measure for yourself. I went with a 6.25" BS on an 9.5" wide wheel for the front and the equivalent of 6.5" in the rear.

I ended up going with a 20" Billet Rally on all four corners.

20x9.5 / 5.5" BS
20x8 / 5" BS

Going to run a 275/30 in the rear and a 245/30 in the front. Crossing my fingers hoping everything fits as planned...

LOL! I called and changed the order to 18s. I thought about it, and I DO like the look of the 20" wheel and I can get them to fit (maybe with a lil lip rollin' on the rear), buuuuuut I can't see myself rompin' around town on a 30 series wheel.

When I am hauling ballz down the road banging through the gears I can't see paying MORE attention to the road looking for the slightest bump or pothole. I live in Wichita, KS - The friggin' rain here washes out the roads. BIG pOtHoLes! :]

Move to Florida, NO potholes where i live, thats why all i see are boxed caprices on 24s, and 1 rollin on 46 lol its got a 14 inch custom lift kit and 6 inch body lift.

Let us know how they fit. I'm curious if a 275 requires rolling the rear lip or not on a 68.
