solid roller lifters, horizontal or vertical lifter bars?
what are the advantages/disadvantages of both?
i can't seem to find any info on this topic?

The horizontal type are usually (always?) spring loaded, so if you pull the pushrods and rotate the cam they will pop up and out of the way, but without coming out of the hole. It makes swapping cams easier.
I have also heard that they make setting lash a little easier, for some reason.
