Painting a frame - do I need a clearcoat?

I've been touching up my frame and will re-paint it this weekend with some typical black "Chassis Paint" from the local auto paint supply shop.


Should I put some kind of protectant coat or clearcoat or something on top of the black frame paint? The shop didn't mention anything about it....

I believe that it depends on what the manufacturer of the paint recommends. Some paints contain UV protectant and others do not. If there isn't any info on your can, I would contact your paint supplier or the manufacturer to get guidance.

Also, you may want to post the name of the product that you are using. Someone here may already know the answer.

It all depends on the type of paint. If it is a two stage system, or just single stage. If it is just chassis black in a spray bomb, you probably will not need a clear coat. Besides the frame wont see much sunshine anyway. A few good heavy coats should work well.

I like to clearcoat anything I can. Just makes me feel better.
