Is the ATI Super Damper Harmonic Balancer Really worth the Money?

Is it really needed when installing a stock LS2?

Stock? Probably not, if its going to stay that way. But, if an aftermarket one is needed, ATI is the only one I'd ever use...

Yeah I have no plans of super/turbo charging it as it will be a daily driver. I hope GM's stock Balancer will do the job. I was just told that I should get the ATI.

Well, the GM motors are mostly all certified to 200,000 miles the way they come from the factory (My 1994 4.3L in my Sonoma just turned 270K and doesn't burtn a drop of oil! ) . So I'd say you'd be alright. If you've got some extra $ to spend, then it is a nice upgrade, but not necessary on a stock motor...

The stock balancer is very good, but I have seen the insulator ring come apart in a few. You should be able to see the balancer actually wobble if this is starting to happen. I have used several Powerbond brand SFI underdrive balancers at my shop for the LSX in both the F-body and Corvette version for naturally aspirated and turbo cars. They are an inexpensive and great alternative to the higher priced ATI. The ATI does have its place and is an excellent piece when it comes to the supercharged cars for sure. You can e-mail me at [email protected] for more info if you like. Hope this helps.
