Calling all 1st gen Camaros and 3rd gen Novas

I'm looking to put some front speakers in the Nova but can't decide where to put them. I've got a few days off and I thought about putting them in the lower corner of the door panel, but I think it would be a pain to have to drill a hole in the door and the door jam area (whatever it's called) for the wires to get through. Not to mention I'd be afraid of them getting pinched. I've seen the kick panels that have speakers in them, but I don't have a/c, so I need to keep my vents. Is there a way to have speakers and vents in the kick panels? It looks like it may be possible, but I dunno.

So does anyone have any advice/opinions/pics of their setup? I'm leaning toward putting them in the door since there's already a hole in the inner door panel that looks like it'll work. I don't want to cut up the door if I don't have to. Plus it's free since I already have the speakers and wiring.

I put mine in the doors, I got a door boot from the junk yard to protect the wires. I run a dead pedal so I was unable to use the kick panel speakers. Randy

Do you have pics of them? And possibly the door after you cut it? I can't find much info on this. It looks like most people elect to use the kick panels, but I need my vents and I don't want to hack up my stock ones, so I made a template and started cutting in the lower left corner. The problem is, I didn't know there would be a huge support there for the door hinges, so that's now in the way. Would it be ok to cut some of that out? I don't want my door to sag or get flimsy, so I didn't do anything yet, but I am kinda wondering if I already weakened the structural integrity.

Any ideas/advice?

I will take some picture of the boots and finished door panels, I did have to cut a small amount of the door,To help add strength back to the door I welded the front of the moister slot together. Maybe someone else can post a picture of a door with out the door panel to see how the Camaro com pairs to the Nova. Randy

If you put speakers in the doors they make a product called JAm Tacks and they are spring loaded blocks you fasten into the door jam and when closed they make contacts and allow the speakers work.
It does require drilling but no wires in the door opening.
Biggest problem I have ever seen with them is the brass get green but a little Stabilant 22 or some never dull and they shine right back up.
They do take a little work to get in proper place but work very good unless you try to hange big subs with mega watts running to them.
They work so good GM uses them with the vans with sliding side doors.

Thanks for the tip but I don't know what I'm gonna do. I don't have a/c so I need the vents, so I'd prefer not to use the kick panel area. Don't want my doors to sag, so I don't think I can use the doors. Looks like I'm stuck with the 6x9's. :(

I put them in the original spot under the dash in my 67 camaro. I took out the old one and gutted it and then mounted (2) 3 1/2 or 4" (i can't remember) speakers in the frame of the original. It made a difference. Along with the 6 x 9's and sub, it sounds great.

You mean the speaker way up front? I've thought about that but didn't think it would make that much of a difference. I'll have to look into it.

I also put some 4in speakers under the dash and some 6x9 in the back but i put dynamat in the back deck panel and it sound good

The stock speaker in the center of the dash should be at 4"x6" oval speaker. On my 69 camaro, I made a bracket that held two 3 1/2" Highs. This is the perfect spot because acoustics bounce off the windshield directly to the ear. I also ran two three way 6x9's in the package tray. That was all the sound that I needed! There is a company that makes a drop in replacement speaker for the dash with 3 1/2" pioneers ready to install but i forget the name. They are in the Classic Insustries catalog as well and National Parts Depot! Hope this helps! Good luck!

I didn't want speakers in the kick panels that stuck out as they would be kicked all the time (big feet in a small car). The modified dash speaker is a good suggestion (did it on a '66 Mustang and it sounded good). Mine are in the lower front of the door panels. They get kicked getting in and out of the car (dammit).

I would stick with the dash speakers and maybe do some tweeters in the A pillars.

Since you were leaning this way, here is a picture of separates in a 1st gen door. The installer chose his custom method of creating holes in the door panel to look like a speaker cover. It sounds great and it's hardly noticeable.
