I had one. Put twin turbos on it. Great riding, super comfortable seats, no rattles, etc. I think they're great cars for driving.

I've gotten to drive them on the track (during a Bondurant event) and on the street, and all I can tell you is that I'm a big fan. The interior is up there with BMW and obviously the drivetrain is stout. If I didn't need a truck, I'd have one in my driveway.

      My humble Opinion

I agree with all the previous posts, my only gripe about the car is the styling. Specifically, the proportion of the rear wheel well size and the rear quarter hieght.

I did see a gto that someone custom made a subtle wide body kit for (I think it was on the power tour a couple years ago) with much wider rear wheels that looked good.

That's really the only reason I haven't pushed my wife for permission to put one in the garage. I'll just wait for the '09 camaro I think.

I agree with you on the styling, but if you do the grille inserts like Jody had done and you get rid of the standard 17" wheels (if that's what you ended up getting) in favor of something in an 18, then you have a much better looking vehicle. I'd never noticed the rear wheel-to-rear quarter proportion, guess it doesn't bother me much.

I'm with you though, I'm waiting for the new Camaro. I know I'll wait at least 5-6 months after the first cars are delivered, but may even wait until the second model year, guess we'll see.

If it had been called the G8, we would have sold the hell out of them. Putting the GTO badge on it was mistake....but an honest one. Who knew? It's a great car to drive and I mean a REALLY great car to drive. I had the oppurtunity to violate one about a month ago and I was grinning ear to ear afterwards. They'll be a great bargin in a couple of years. That LS2 makes them all worth it.

Who knew? Honestly, if GM had bothered listening to GTO enthusiasts, they would have. The guys on performanceyears.com hounded GM about rebadging this car as a GTO well before its release, but they were ignored and very few of them purchased the car. The Monaro is an excellent car and should have been sold as a Monaro.

Well, being that the guys from Top Gear really liked and approved of the car, I'd say it's a pretty good car. And they chose it over a Jaguar.....

my buddy has an 06. the only problems i see are the sloppy shifter and the crappy soft suspension. other then that the car is pretty cool. oh yeah the power seats move super slow, makes loading and unloading the back seat a problem.

      That's a fair arguement.

I have an 05 prolly the best gm car i have ever owned. No problems with this one. I have had two 04's one was a nice like my 05 and the other had a few issues rear end very noisey and front suspension issues. All three had less than 10k miles not sure about what they will do after some real miles but still the best thing gm has to offer. I love my 05.

I think the quality and reliability are there overall, and it's at least better looking than the Monte Carlo and Impala but I still find the overall exterior design of the GTO a little boring.

Ok, I find it a lot boring.
