      Canadian suppliers

Hey Guys. Anyone know of any Pro-touring related Parts suppliers located in Canada. I'm getting raped with all the extra border fees i'm having to pay (brokerage fees, duty, extra taxes, extra handling fees) plus the exchange rate, plus shipping time. And then some companys wont even ship to Canada, which i just recently found out when i tried to get a price quote on a pair of Procar Rallys from Motorsport Seats.
Im getting pretty frustrated here so any suggestions you guys can give me would be awsome. I'm also trying to find out if there are any Procar dealers here in Western Canada, British Columbia specifically, so that i can try and do a pickup on a pair of seats instead of paying so much on shipping for such a big item.

      Thanks Alot
      Dave

I'd be interested to hear about some Canadian companies too.

The only way I'm willing to have something shipped to me from the States is with USPS. Any other company (especially UPS) ends up costing WAY more than what I consider fair.

Ditto on UPS, do not use them their brokerage fee blows. I won't buy anything from the US if they do not use USPS.
Basically with USPS whatever the value of goods are in USD they convert it to CDN at the border. You then pay CDN tax on that amount plus $5 handling fee. Usually ends up still being cheaper than buying here. Anything under $20 is no extra charge.

Downside to USPS is a 60# maximum weight.

GPSuperStore.com ships USPS to Canada and Overseas. We are very familar with the paperwork and duty structure, and know what you need to get it accross the border.

That's good to hear. I just might have to get involved in the Hotchkis buy.

If you live close to the border look for somebody on the us side to act as a depot. Where I live mb, there is a guy just across the border who you get your stuff shipped to then drive down and pick it up. You still have to pay tax when you cross the border but that is it. One other benefit is that some companies offer free shipping within usa. Has worked well for me.

yeah, go with the US postal service(USPS).......I know a UPS guy......he says "since the USPS is essentially an extension of the US govornment they are not subject to the same rules($charges) as a private carrier like UPS or Fed EX when it comes to shipping across international borders......we stink when it comes to cross border stuff and were fighting it (in court ) but it takes forever"

The reason SO many companies use UPS or Fed EX is they come to them and pick up their packages where for the most part with the USPS you have to take your package down to the post office to send it (who would you choose?) However of late the USPS wants to get in the game and many vendors are not aware that in alot of locations the USPS has started a pick up service, they just have to ask.
All my boat stuff comes from the States.....were all over it.......doug

MOPAC can get almost anything and their prices are usually right about the same as buying from the US after all the extras are covered. They have locations in alberta and BC.

I order all of my parts from a local speed shop I worked at. It specalized in sprint car stuff, but most shops like this can still order parts from alot of sources not just circle track stuff. Any hardcore shop, drag or oval, they have and should deal in alot of suppliers for suitable pro- touring parts. They will have a regular broker they use, and could help keep costs down bringing across the border. It works for me.... give it a shot... support the local guy...

Where in BC are you located? Lower Mainland closer to the border? I order EVERYTHING from the US. Ship to a warehouse in Blaine, WA just across the border. Drive down, pick up my items, pay the taxes and you are done. There are alot of warehouses or shipping offices that do this close to the border. It will save you way more money than ordering from Canadian suppliers.

      Shameless plug:

My brother Tony has been working there for about 8 months now. The owner, Paul Barber, specifically brought him in for his knowledge of 50s / 60s / 70s vehicles, and hardcore engine buildups, as they're trying to expand their market. They do a lot of mail order across the country.

For Manitoba guys, there's a place in Neitche ND just west of Pembina called Menke's Parcel....they charge a minimal fee for handling the stuff and are great to work with.

Try Performance Parts Center in Langley. I have found them to be cheaper than Summit on quite a few items. Like Rybar I also have stuff shipped to a storage facility in Blaine and drive down to pickup.

Here's a tip for my fellow Canucks. If you mail order something from another province, you don't pay provincial sales tax. Of course, if your province doesn't have a sales tax, then it really doesn't matter

www.pitlaneracing.com is a local circle track supplier. Bill can get any of the big name parts. I ordered all of my springs, spindles, calipers, rotors, lca, and misc stuff from him at great prices!

btw he is located in Edmonton, Alberta.

Tell him Matt in Red Deer sent you.
