1968 Firebird 400 convertible

Just joined up. I have a 1968 Firebird that I thought some people would like to see. I have owned a lot of cars, but my first "cool" car was a 1967 Firebird convertible when I was 17. I'm 36 now, so I guess the sickness/hobby has come full circle. Anyhow, I look forward to some of the information on here and to just appreciating everybody else's cars. They are never "done", but the only major modification that I have planned now is a big 4 wheel disc brake package. Here is some info that I cut and pasted from my PT garage that I set up. Thanks!

Thanks. Most of the time I feel like I'm probably the only person in the world that actually prefers the Firebird over a similar Camaro. I have always had a soft spot for them. I don't normally see too many Firebirds around. I was at Goodyguys in Del Mar yesterday and I think mine was the only one there. Granted it is nearly all red 1932 roadsters at those things, but I figured some other ones would show.

i have both a 69 firebird 400 and camaro....i love them both..i think the bird looks better but the camarosa are worth a ton more..lol..welcome and nice ride!!!

I have owned many Camaros too. I agree with you. I like them all. I just prefer the Firebirds a little more since I owned them when I was younger. Honestly, I don't really care what it is. If someone has worked hard on their car, I always felt it should be appreciated whether it is your favorite or least favorite car.

Welcome to the site. Funny story about that car, I saw it on ebay that monday morning and called the seller. I got off work early, and started heading towards Austin to buy it (3 hr drive). I called him and he told me someone had hit the "buy-it-now" button. Dang, it wasn't even on ebay that long, had several days to go.

I think it was only on Ebay for about 5 hours when I found it. I hit the Buy It Now button before I actually got a hold of him because I knew it would go away if it was anything close to what it looked like in the ad. He didn't have his number in the ad, so I had to e-mail him to get it. While waiting to hear from him I just decided to go ahead with it. I called up my friend who was dying to have my red 1967 Firebird convertible, sold it to him that morning, and the rest fell into place. Fortunately for me the car is MUCH nicer than I could have ever expected or hoped for. I got receipts for everything that total over $40,000 that has been spent on it. It ended up having a ton of stuff that I didn't even know about when I agreed to buy it. The guy went crazy spending $$ on it. Although we all know those are usually the best deals when someone else has already spent the cash and they take the hit instead of you. I really couldn't be happier with the car. You hear all of the Ebay horror stories and I am very aware of how lucky I got since it is probably one of the few cars on Ebay that is actually nicer than described.

sure, rub it in! haha. I knew it was a good deal, that was why I was driving there to buy it the same day it was posted. I priced it out at around $30-32K based on the parts and condition. $25K buy-it-now was a good deal. I think he priced it low because he had it for so many years (I think 10?) and didn't realize what they were selling for now.

Again, congrats on the purchase. Even one of my best friends wanted that car if I didn't buy it.

Awesome. You lucked out. My eBay experience wasn't quite as good.

One thing that seems odd is the peak torque rpm vs. peak hp rpm.

With the rpms so close, either

• they didn't dyno it past 5500
• the valves are floating above 5500rpm
• something in the induction is choking it (air cleaner, intake, carb - a 870cfm might be a better choice)
• it has too large a cam.
• the tune is off

In other words, you may have even more in it with some minor engine updates!
