You have to use the L76....

And the price above is for a bare manifold.... Injectors are at least that much (from GM) and I'm sure the fuel rail is up there too......

If I was going to build a ls motor with current parts, I'd start with an L92 block, callies 4" stroker crank, l92 heads and the l76 intake.
This would be an all aluminum 415" motor for not a whole lot of dough.

The LS1 style intake manifold for the L92 heads is $530, including TB, injectors, fuel rails, etc. http://www.sdparts.com/product/12590...iveByWire.aspx

The "carburetor" style intake is about $300, bare.

That's a pretty decent deal, especially for what they charge for all those parts seperately!

      L76 / L92 Compatible?

I thought that the Car Craft atricle stated the L92 heads were specific to that motor due to the wider intake ports - meaning a new style specific intake would have to be used. Would the L76 intake kit work? Isn't the L76 intake the LS2 style intake? Aren't the ports smaller than the L92 head?

Nope, that's the only intake that works with those heads, unless you want a sheetmetal job...

      Diff between LQ4 & LQ9

So what is different between the LQ4 and LQ9 6.0L motor. Am I correct that the LQ4 is the truck motor and the LQ9 is the Escalade motor? Is it only a camshaft difference between the two motors? I heard the early LQ4's were iron block and the latest are aluminum, this correct? Seems like for strength and long term reliability the iron block would not be a bad choice - if you can live with the few extra pounds. Any other downsides?

As I recall LQ9s have a different cam as well as a higher compression ratio accomplished by smaller chambers in the head. If you are changing heads out to the L92's anyway then grab an LQ4 cause its way cheaper.

The LQ4 is the iron truck engine, the LQ9 is the aluminum escalade motor.

65lb difference between the two. I'm sure there are other differences but someone else will have to chime in.

LQ9 is cast iron, just like the LQ4.........

Only difference is compression... heads and pistons...

OK both LQ4 and LQ9 blocks are iron. Early LQ4's had iron heads (the only ls engines with iron heads.) Later LQ4's and all LQ9's have aluminum heads. I seem to remember that only 1999 Lq4's had iron heads but I could be making that up.

      Yeah, its something like that....

The 317 head that came on the LQ9's is the equivalent to the LS6 head, just with a bigger combustion chamber. The LQ4 head is different in design. Not sure how much, but its designed for low end torque (truck motor) instead of higher flow.

The later LQ4 and LQ9s all had 317 casting heads which have a very similiar port design to the LS6/LS2 243 casting but with a larger chamber.

The pistons did change between the LQ4 (more dished) and LQ9 and maybe the cam. Some sources on the truck boards claim the connecting rods changed but I am not sure on that one.
