What needs to be covered when washing the engine bay?

My has been at the shop for two months. It is really a total mess inside the engine bay due to dust and stuff.

I really need to clean the engine bay once the car is done. I do have mothers polish to shine the valve covers and polished compressor and alternator.

But first I need to wash the engine bay, then work on detailing the engine.

So besides the air filter, what other parts do I need to cover in order not to get sprayed with water?

      Thank you guys in advance.

Pull the air cleaner and cover the carb with a plastic bag and some duck tape. The rest you can spray with purple clean and wash away. Your would have to blow out the distributor cap. You should scrap any heavy stuff first and let the purple soak for a while, then re wet and spray off 10 minutes later
