This is important: Remember that even though they're in the military, you are not! Don't let a recruiter hassle you! Take advantage of the fact that you are NOT a lower rank than them, and tell them exactly what you think, and ask all the questions you can think of.

I agree. Originally when I went to enlist, it was because of the Navy recruiter. My dad was ex-Navy. He did 9 years as a reactor operator aboard the USS Stonewall Jackson. So I was originally considering going that route. The Navy recruiter tried to do the same thing to me. He tried to rush me in to enlisting. Then when I told him I needed a little bit of time to think, he got all pissy with me and tried to guilt trip me in to signing with the Navy. At which point I proceeded to give him the finger (yes, literally) and walk across the hall to the AF office. Boy am I glad I did. My dad even thinks I made the better decision. These recruiters have no authority over you at this point. As was stated before, use this to your advantage.

Oh, and another little tidbit you might be interested in.... DO NOT enlist without having a guaranteed job on your enlistment contract. If they tell you they can't do that, it's b/s. I did it in 99, and they can still do it today. Also, do not let them put you in a "general" career field. For instance, if you let them put you in a general mechanical career field, you could wind up with a job fixing jet engines like i'm doing, to fixing vehicles or heavy equipment, or fixing the water pump that feeds the base commanders toilet. You don't get a say in the matter.
