Any Pics / Ideas for Finishing Out a 2nd Gen Bird's Trunk?

I'm getting down to the final steps and it's about time to get my trunk in order. Any examples, ideas or "gotchas" to look out for?

You may not be able to fit a trunk that big into the back of a 2gen. I suggest another go at the problem. Hawk, there is a wood product called luan, 'looahn' it is used to make drawer and cabinet bottoms. I have thought that it may make a good base for a trimmed out trunk. Ther are some other posts about this, look around this section, you will find it. try the trunk carpet thread.

It's not a firebird, it's a 73 camaro which should be the same. Anyway here is acouple shots of my trunk. The side panels pull out for space also.

ZYAL8R, how are the panels mounted to the floor, sides and trunk lips. Is everything held in place by tension? Does it create any squeaks?

turbo6, did you just install material straight down? What type? Almost looks like a trucks "bedrug" material.

It's called " Trunk liner" Yes I installed it straight down ( glued it down ). I like that look cause with the molds pressed in it still looks stock but real neat & clean. The pics don't do it any justice it looks much nicer in person. the side panels are removeable also and I made a cover for the spare tire instead of having that right side panel go on a drastic angle to cover it like some of the kits come. turbo6, it's also a good match for your deck lid cover! Where did you get it from, assuming it just comes in sheets? Also, are your side panels just held in place with a tension fit?

The bottom of the trunk is just the cardboard stuff they use to make panels with covered in tweed. The part on the backside of where the rear seat is located is bent to where it attaches to the bottom of the package tray area and kinda hangs down from there . The side panels are held in with tension and can be removed for additional storage. The panel located at the trunk latch is held in place with 2 of the plastic fastners used to attach door panels. Just drill a couple of holes in the trunk latch area and snap the fastners in.

Mark, the trunk lid cover was done by my parents who own Eagle Auto Trim in AR. They have done custom interiors for over 25yrs. The trunk liner material comes by the roll and it is 54" wide. It took about 5yrds to do my whole trunk. The sides are made out of "cowl board" it's a water proof board made to make door panels out of, and yes the sides are just a nice tight fit to hold them in place ( I would rather have that than have screws showing). Here are some pics of a 69 camaro my parents just got done doing.. cost was somewhere around $4,800 for the complete interior. Scot w. Their info is:

Someone at Team Camaro had great results with stuff called Zolatone. I think the old school NASCAR look Charger in Hot Rod a few months ago used it too.

Here are my pictures. I added one more thing. I built a little storage area behind the seats. The two drawers will be hidden by a panel that will be removable. Also thinking about using the space below the bottom panels. Plan on using Velcro to hold then down.
