Skunk Removal

I own and operate a pest control company. Use a humane trap with with either cat food or sardines. Cover the trap so that the skunk cannot see out. Also, use a trap that is just big enough for the skunk to fit in.


Skunks need two things to spray. The ability to see, and the ability to lift their tails. Without those, they can't spray.



Of course, releasing them is the hard part. ;)

One got into my grandfathers home through an outside plumbing access hole for the bathroom tub. It made a home for itself on the opposite side of the access door and died, we're speculating from the fiberglass insulation that it used to make a bed. Had to cut a hole in the back of a closet to get the carcass out, and after two years in there the house still had that lovely odoriferous emanation. We dumped a bunch of baking soda in before sealing the hole. No more stink.

Not a skunk removal story, but skunk related. My dog....a boxer named Moe, got himself sprayed in the face by a skunk. Must have gone right in his mouth and nose, cause he started throwing up and foaming at the mouth. Used a combination of peroxide, baking soda, and trusty tomato juice to get some of the smell off of him. Took about two months for the scent to go away.

Next time, (if there is one) try baking soda peroxide and dish soap. Skunk musk is oil based, so the dish soap helps get it (the oils)off. It only took two days when my dog got it in the face. The bad thing was that the smell would reappear when she got sick.
