what's a relatively cheap solution that will do both rollcages and exhaust?

I don't know that there is a good bender to do both roll cages and exhaust on one machine. Most of your cage benders have a min. wall thickness that is rather thick for exhaust. On the same level, most exhaust benders have a max. wall thickness less than min. cage thickness.

This is just what I know of the machines I have looked at. If there is a machine that can do both, I would like to know it also.

Also the exhaust benders tend to neck down the material about 10 to 15 %.

the difference is that the cage bender needs to be of a manderal format and bend the tube in a different method than an exhaust bender. This is so that it does not weaken the tube in the bend area. I have never seen a machine that can do both that is under 50,000.

for a cage bender look at medfordtools.com and thier model 3. Its great for the self fabricator.

its ok, but i find that because it bends up it can create some problems when doing mainhoops and other multiple complex compound bends.

model 3 and a digital level will work wonders with some practice.

I have been doing some research on tubing benders and wanted to share. I also didn't think there should be another thread so I'm adding to this one.

This one makes the most sense for me considering that it doesn't take a lot of floor space to bend tube, it bends it vertical.

Thats the one I use.. I'm not very good at it tho.. Works good and has done a bunch of cages so far.

I've used exhaust benders on roll bar tubing for years and it does a pretty fair job,as long as you don't go past 90 degrees{for some reason it gets all stupid and starts to flatten the tubing past 90}I now have a JD2 model 4 with a hydraulic/air cylinder.It was about $2000,but it works really well and will bend to 180 degrees.The thing I didn't like about the tube shark is that it was verticle instead of horizontal,it seems like it would be hard to lay another peice of tubing on top of it to copy a previous bend,but I'm sure there is a way,and you'd get used to it.Ron

There are many simple manual benders on the market for the "garage" builders out there. Just google tube benders.

I just converted mine to pneumatic/hydraulic, good bender for the money invested. Now if only I had a DRO of the angles and could set the bender for spring back and other nice features lol

I have the pro-tools bender and have been very happy with it so far. they gave me a decent deal on a bender, and notcher. I think they are a sponsor for the dezertrangers forum, so they frequently run specials on that site. Also I have found their customer service to be fantastic.
