Sell it to build another?

How do you guys do it? Do you sell your cars or parts to fund a new project or new parts? Or do you just trudge through and build a collection?

I might have to sell mine to build another. The engine I mean. I might have to sell my 402 stroked and bored to 433 in order to build a 496 that I've already started building. I was really hoping to keep the 433 in the corner. I've had that thing since before Bart Simpson's first episode. It's been in 3 different cars. It was my first and only big block!

What have you sold with real sentimental value to make room for another?

I can't afford multiple cars so I generally sell, however I'm not going to sell my 68. The nice thing is my job forces me to have a second car to build. That one (the Fairlane right now) will get built and sold to fund the next mag project car.

Manifest destiny is going to prove that if you are putting in a new engine because the old one isn't what you want anymore, then when the new one gets old or ever breaks you will be looking for the new one again an not the old one.

Unless you need a boat motor /anchor someday it would be best to sell it. The only other thing to look for is if someone needs it because of the numbers game and they are not buying them right now. I think there are going to be more people looking for and paying more for period correct parts in the future and holding on to something that is valuable for what it is to someone else will change the whole equation on if it is worth it to keep it.

Turning it into a piece of car art to inspire you is also a cool option these days. The engine in my bedroom once inspired my mother to question why I was using it as a table stand for the clear glass table top I got for free. Everyone liked it because it was so unusual and still functional.

Goodluck with the new engine and I hope it last as long as the old one and you are completely satisfied with it the whole time you have it.

Maybe just try some different heads, or cam, to get some more power out of it.

Used engine really don't bring much money when sold.

I usually keep costs down by buying other peoples cast off projects and either using them myself or finishing them and selling. keeps the $ rolling but it has become a case of finishing other projects to get cash and time to work on my main goal so I need to stop buying up all the stuff I see

I only have enough room for six cars, so I usually just sell a vehicle to fund the next one. Someday I'll have a shop built on some property so I can keep more of them around. I enjoy customizing/building a car more than owning them too long. I usually keep a car 2-3 yrs max and then it is time for the next idea.

im the same way...as soon as they are built I get bored with them. Then I start making excuses to work on them. Also thats why they never get finished. keep it and build another Tony H

I have a hard time selling as I get attached to em. But I eventually sell to fund the next. I had a yellow 96 LT4 six speed that I bought new. I ordered it with no options except the engine. I watched them build it in Bowling Green, my son rode in it down the assy line when he was 7 yrs old. That car was awesome, ran 12.36 @ 114 mph, with nothing more than a 3" exhaust. I was really attached to that one, but sold it to partially fund my Ultima GTR.
