for hi-hp they are the way to go id just use a 350 converter, also an upgraded 350 is also a good choice lighter yet strong...

I helped install one in a 68 GTO convertible. He loves it but really doesn't do any racing, just cruising. He leaves the brain box in auto and lets it shift itself into OD.

I just bought one to put in my 74TA. I already had a very strong TH400 and do race occasionally so I wanted something that would take my 500+ foot pounds of torque.

With even 3.42 gears in my 69 camaro the gv behind my th350 did'nt have enough od for dalot of freeway driving, but worked flawless (turned off at the dragstrip) and was seamless using it at the road course, so I put a 200r4 in the 69, and put the gv in the 67 with a bb and the th400. I rigged the unit to shift off a button on the shifter, so that if I ever have too many rpm's at the track, I just hit the button and it up shifts into the next gear split.
For a mostly track car (and even in the mostly street car) it just works darn well, and the hp loss is not even noticeable at the dragstrip.
Zero problems over a 2 year period.

I have this combo in a 88 Chevy single wheel 1 ton truck and have had good success with it, it changes the 4.10 gear to a 3.20 in overdrive and kills the RPMS as it's overdriven 22%.
The only thing that took getting comfortable with was when the unit engages into overdrive it shifts pretty firm as if it has a shift kit, it's partly due to the heavy rear springs in the truck with no load, when loaded it engages softer.
      You have a PM.
      Thanks,
      Gerald
