      Anyone with Exhaust Ideas?

Hello to all, I'm new to the website and excited to have found the site. I have a 1967 camaro with a 427 big block and 5spd TKO tranny and am putting ina 12 bolt Moser with 3:73 gears in the rear. I have a question perhaps some of you could help with: the car sits quite low to the ground (which is what I want) and I'm also installing full length hooker super comp headers. The problem with the last headers is that the collector flanges scrape the ground from time to time, which is what I'm trying to avoid. Someone suggested taking off the flange clamps to gain the extra inch or two and using band clamps with welded tabs on the header to keep them in place. Will the band clamps leak? Have any of you confronted this problem? Any suggestions would be most appreciated. Thanks.

      Teddy,

I am going through this now myself. Depending on your exhaust requirements, here is what I am doing with mine. 2.5" should be plenty for my 406.

I am first switching to a header with a 2.5" collector. I am going to remove the standard 3 bolt collector & use a "ball & socket" collector. These require no gasket & use a 2 bolt collector (1 on either side of the pipe). I am them going to fab my own 2.5" y-pipe that dumps into a 3.5" oval (2.5" x 4") that runs below the driveshaft and into a oval muffler that will dump at the rear u-joint. If I have enough room I may exit it under the rocker, but Im not too sure if that will work or not.

I'm having the same problem. I don't wanna spend $500+ on headers and find out that I have clearence issues. With a bbc+ airride= clearence issues. Not to mention merlin recommends 2 1/8" primaries which are hard to find in a shorty header. I'll prob just make my own set but any help is always appreciated.

      Hi Guys

If you need complete headers, a weld it yourself kit, or bends, flanges, tubing, etc we can help. We also do custom builds in our shop in Cleveland, Ohio.

      Thanks

Thanks for the tips guys. Stainless Works does have nice headers for a first gen Camaro. Al from there tells me the clearance issues will be fine if I use a reducer and band clamp and forgo the three bolt flange. My only concern (and I have a voicemail into Al at the moment) is what the headers will look like after they have been on the motor for a while. I'm told they will turn gold. Anyone have pics of this happening? AL?
