      FNG and his rides

      Hey all

The name's Shay. Just wanted to introduce myself and say Hi. Been a lurker for a long time and decided to take the plunge. There are alot of people on here doing some amazing things with their cars. My Rides without further adieu:

      1968 GTO 400 4spd 3:55
My driver for now. She'll get torn down in a year or two and will be restified with a PT influence.

These are of me and my Pops coming back from our yearly pilgrimage to Woodward Dreamcruise

      Then there's my 66 GTO 400 4spd project
She doesn't look like much but she's clean with new pans and qrt's and awesome foundation to start from. Beside I got a killer deal on her.

Bringing her back from the swap meet

And finally here is my wife's 67 Chevy Corvair Monza 140 HP 4spd 3:27.
It's a fun little car and has been a faithful driver as long as you learn all of her bad habits (the car's not my wife's) . She'll be our first Pro-Touring project.

Plans are to create a updated Yenko Stinger Pro-Touring clone. Should be fun.

      Thanks

I used have a 2nd Gen F-body, a '75 Camaro. Nice cars but probalbly won't own another one. I'm tall and fit better in A-bodys . Plus they have freakishly long doors (sucks in parking lots). But they do make slick looking pro-touring cars epecially the Poncho ones.

Nice Vair! Thought about going the stinger route myself, but decided to go a whole different way. Glad there's one more of us. PT vair guys are few and far between. (which is odd, since they lend themselves to it so well.) Good luck!

That's the nice thing about corvairs. They're different. Even most chevy guys don't know what it is at first. Especially mine since the previous owner shaved all the badges. It's kinda sad, the Corvair is a good platform to start from for any car guy/gal, but go to any of the Corvair forums out there on the web and ask about modifying this or that and be prepared to get shot down in flames by the purists in mass.

I like the Stingers and figured since not much on my Corvair is original that it didn't matter turning it into a clone. It started life as a 1967 Butternut Yellow 500, 110 HP auto w/ AC. Now it has a 140 HP, dumped the auto for a 4 spd, changed the diff gears and swapped out the interior and wheels for Monza stuff. Except for the buckets they are 68 Pontiac A-body seats. Sure beats the sadle bench that car originally came with from the factory. In fact my 66 GTO also has 68 Pontiac seats. So I have 3 sets of 68 Pontiac bucket seats. It just worked out that way. Weird huh?

I plan on follwing the Yenko paint scheme along with some of the fiberglass add-ons but not necessarily the colors...who knows at this point.

The plan is to keep the boxer, again because of being different and besides properly set up vairs more than held their own at the track against all the V8 cars even the V8 Vairs, and set it up as a Stage III specs but with the addition of forced induction. I have played with the idea of going EFI but I also like the idea keeping the Quad 1 bbls. Lot's of decisions to make.

Brakes and Suspension will be all new tech. Which believe it or not my drum brakes were played with by a buddy of mine and stop on a dime. Or like a Porche in his words. I never would of thought you could get drums to perform like they do but none the less they're getting deep six'd in favor of 4 wheel disc brakes.

But until I get to all the tough decisions it's time to start the tear down. I have a busted differential to deal with.

Every now and then there is a beacon of hope for the Corvair crowd. I don't know this guy but saw his vair at a local cruise. Anybody know him? Maybe he's on here.

that vair belongs to Brian Paul. A guy named Bart Frye owned it before and had Kevin Erisman do the suspension work and the exhaust mods.

Kevin owns Hackers Paradise We've gone back and forth through emails on how the rear was modded on that vair to get those 18x10s to fit. He seems like a nice guy and is willing to share how he did it if you ask him.

Here's how that car looks today.

      Shay,
Those are some sweet lookin rides you got there. The Corvair looks cool--I love the stance. The goat looks great--I agree that you should turn it into a PT monster! Mind over matter...if you don't mind it doesn't matter!
