Disc brake rear?

I have a disc rear from an 81 T/A in my 80 Z28.Does anyone sell upgrades for these rears,such as better rotors and calipers?

There are slotted, drilled or combination rotors available for your application.

The calipers are problematic with the internal parking brake. You must religously use the parking brake to keep these calipers working properly. Check you calipers before installation as the pistons may already be seized it the rearend has been sitting. I am not aware of an upgrade caliper that will bolt on the same/stock caliper bracket. To upgrade calipers and size of rotor you will need to replace everything. If you do that, you have defeated the purpose of purchasing/using the T/A rearend.

The best thing for the rear caliper is go buy some lifetime warranty rebuilts. Then when the piston sticks and the parking brake mechanism doesn't work swap them for free! They have a decent sized piston.

Another option is using 81 Malibu right front calipers(same mounting spacing) on both sides on the rear and having no parking brake.The brake hose is in a different location so you would have to change that.

If you are a good fabricator I would think you could use the rotors and make a bracket to use a better caliper/parking brake on it.

Don't scare the guy! I have used them for 15 years! I haven't rebuilt them, but i try and use the parking brake every once in a while. They work good and are cheap. You may have a tough time buying pads, but.... If you buy a set of front metric pads, and add the little pin that keeps the piston from rotating when the parking brake is applied, you will have any pad you like and can match to the front

They've been on my TA for almost 20 years! I have noticed now they cross reference a front pad that has different "bumps" on it than the old dedicated rear pads did.

SSBC Brakes sells a caliper that will bolt in place of the stock units. Looks nice and retains the parking brake, but as I haven't used them, I can't comment on the quality.

That's interesting I hadn't seen that caliper. I thought most rear disc setups used a different spacing/bracket on their calipers.

They don't list anything on their site as stock replacement. Any idea which ones?

The TA rotors are 11.25" or so, right?

That looks interesting, I wonder if it's the same ratchet piston the GM ones had?
