You first need a quality pliers that will not leave marks on the wire and can do LEFT and RIGHT twists, most of the POS pliers out there can only do right handed. If you want a quality pliers for about 50$ + a little shipping I stil have some brand new belzer (european snap on stuff) pliers that do L & R twists.

      Here's the pliers:

It has a selector sleeve/knob in front of the twist/pull knob, this seletcs L R and Neutral (which is used for cutting)

FWIW, learn to do it by hand first and then use the ole' pliers after you get it down.

You don't need to have pliers that twist left and right. You can use a cheaper set that only twists right without problems, just twist to the left when you need to instead of using the pliers twisting feature. All pliers will leave marks on the wire unless you use a bluepoint wavelock type twister but those are around $120. Too much to pay for how little most car guys will use them. Just as good of a job can be done with cheaper ones. I'm an aircraft mechanic and I've used all sorts of various twisters for almost 10 yrs.

Just out of curiosity, what would be the reason for needing a left handed twist?

if bolts are nested close together and you wire lock them in seriies, you need to alternate l & r twist

bluepoint = snap on budget stuff right?

Just FYI, the one I was offering is a belzer waveloc pliers, model 2855DQT and it's brand spanking new in the wrapper, made in the USA. I was offering it for a give away price here, considering this is a top quality aerospace tool and costs over 200 bucks (177.41 euros to be exact and the euro - dollar cuurency conversion is 1 - 1.30 )

I guess it's hard to spot a steal when you come across one
