      Replacing just one tire?

As many of you know, I had a tire blow out on my bird about a week ago. The rest are somewhere around 3 years old but still decent on tread, as the car's been down for rebuilding for at least 6 months and is usually only driven a couple times a month. Would it be safe and mechanically ok to replace just the right front tire? Or should I at least get two new front ones?

Usually you replace one axle at a time unless the other front is like brand new. I would do 2 new fronts.

Do you still believe in all the things that you stood by before? Are you out there on the front lines, or at home keeping score?
Do you care to be the layer of the bricks that seal your fate? Would you rather be the architect of what we might create?

replace both. Why did the tire blow out in the first place?

I've seen tires blow from cracking from sitting. Just something to think about.

      I would replace both.

Here's a senerio, let's say your remaining front tire has 75% of its tread left and you end up replacing just the one. That older, more worn tire will spin faster than the new one due to having less overall rolling circumfrence. This could quite possably result in a pull to one side (the worn side).

If a tire is cracking in 3 years, take them back for warranty replacement.

IMO, it very much depends on the wear of the other tires. For a performance application, I'd say if it is more than 2/32" difference, I'd do both.
