A little off topic but anyone have any experience with '03 or newer E55? Thinking of looking for a used one, from the road tests I have read they are seriously fast. It has to be one of the fastest sedans ever produced. The new E63 is up a little on HP but down on torque, I have not read anything on it yet though, probably safe to assume it is faster.

A friend of mine has one and they are a cool car. Plenty fast for a daily cruiser, and very comfortable.

My friend's father who also happens to bring his 95 vette to me for work has an 05 E55. He considered seeling the vette since the Mercedes was faster. What's the sense in having a weekend car that was slower than the daily driver. The vette is a heads/cam car too. In the end he has chosen to keep the vette as he drives it a great deal for commuting still. The E55 is awsome I think. That is the nicest car I have ever sat in even. Brutally fast bone stock. Kleeman can have you going even faster with aftermarket upgrades. If I remember right, my friend took his 05 to the strip and in the middle of summer with no special prep for the strip ripped off a 12.4 at like 107 or 110. I am sure they may be expensive to repair and up keep, but they are realy nice cars.

2004 E55 (211chassis) had 331.9 cu in 24 valve 9:1 cmp ratio 469hp@6,100 rpm and 516 lb-ft@2650-4500 rpm. intercooled supercharged, 0-60 4.5 seconds, Front rotors 14.2" vented-8-piston fixed calipers, rear rotors 13" 4-pistn fixed calipers 4087lbs curb wt, 2.65:1 rr axle ratio.
2007 E63, 6.3L 32-valve , 507 hp @ 6,800 rpm, 465 lb-ft @ 5,200 rpm, Rear axle ratio 2.82:1, 4035 LBS curb wt, 0 - 60 mph in 4.3 seconds.
Stay away from 2003-2004 models, too many electricle issuses. We have already replaced 1 E63 motor due to combustion pressure in the cooling system. My autocrossing tech likes the feel of the E55 power better for what its worth. Now the V12 65 twin turbo motor, OFF THE HOOK

I have an 04 and I love it. It's been my daily driver for over 2yrs now and I've had no problems at all. I have put a pulley/ecu kit and added a set of shorty headers, that it. My car run's 11.30's in street trim. Not bad for a 4100lbs sled that has butt warmers and all the other gaugets you would want. Nothing else on the road comes close, including the new 63's. Buy one, you won't regret it.

Had a 500E which is sort of the orig HP sedan. Also driven an early E55. These are amazing rides plain and simple.They have enough speed to scare you and the safety to keep you out of trouble. All those electronics keep you from killing yourself. If this is your first German car after owning one you will never buy anything else again.

Wow, would have never guessed they'd run that good with those simple mods. The SL65 with tuning had 650 HP and 850 ft lbs and can barely run that quick; they are a little heavier, but not much.

Would a 2000+ e-series fit a LS motor?

A basic e series with a 6.2 would be the ultimate sleeper.

Jody, we had an sl65 at one of our track events. The car was bone stock and had a below average driver running 11.75's. I know a guy in my area with the same car as mine with a different intercooler, TB and cam. He's running 11.0's and 10.9's on the motor. He sprays a 75 shot and runs a 10.48 in the same 4100lbs sedan. These cars are making crazy power for daily drivers. Tons of torque.

A buddy of mine has an 04 or 05 CL65. Can't remember the year. That thing is rediculous . And they don't even come with a posi stock!!!! Crazy Germans.

The '03 where the 211 chassis as well correct? Due to cost I am only considering a '03 or '04, are the electronic issues really that bad? What should I look for?

10.48 for a daily driver, that is unreal, think about all the press that Nova got with the 1000hp motor, I cannot think of the name of it, it is surprising Mercedes do not get more press for being true muscle cars. Just crazy that Mercedes makes cars that bone stock can beat a Z06 and you rarely hear them talked about when performance comes up, must be due to the very high entrance fee.

Had the first series a 93 e500 still the best car i ever ownd had a 98,BMW 750ia v 12 altho mutch more luxuries i take the old e500 hands douwn. did a 2200 kilometer trip tru the netherlands belgium franche spain. in 15 hours straigh pit stop only for gas and leaking of . aftther a coupke of hours at 240 kilometers ahour your gouing to be sirprized what kinda V8 SOUND THE BEAST MAKES did the trip again somne time later and made a 220 kmh stop because of a acisdend ahead never tought a car could brake so fast and so straight my thumb whent tru the steering airbag!!! smoke came out al 4 wheel cases.. my co driver got out on his knees and bowd saying MERCEDES NR1 MERCEDES NR1 sins that day ita the only car he drives and talk about hahahahh.........

I would never buy an 03 car with all the problems I have seen with them, but I work the back counter with the tech so thats all I ever see is problems.

I have not had the chance to drive the 124chassis 500E, but I understand they sent those cars to Porche to have special suspensions installed. They are very fast according to people I've talked to.

I have an 06 E 55 and like it very much. Good torque and comfortable at the same time. Gives alot of cars a run for their money and room for five. Alot of creature comforts as well and 20 mpg.

Have not driven the 63 yet.
