      My new 69Z's progress

Just thought that I would share a few progress pics of my other Z car. Enjoy.

That is about it for now. Now that the cage is just about done I can start on fitting the t56 and the LS6.

Looks like a fun little project. I like how the cage is tucked up in the car, so that you can hardly see it.

Yeah for my first cage I am happy how it came out. I used a JD2 bender to do all the bending.

      roll cage

I used to look at these cages and think, Oh a few pieces of tubing and a bender and Voila! After getting the bender, etc. I learned different. Very nice cage, looks to fit really well.

Yeah this is the same car. The last picture was taken last weekend, I am hoping to stab the LS6 in it in the next few weeks.

An interesting note about this car is that those first few pictures are not only the first time I saw this car but was also the first time the previous owner had seen the car in more than 10 years. He couldn't even find the keys to the storage unit for a few weeks before we went to meet him over there. The only reason we got a hold of this car was because a friend of ours that owned a concrete company was pouring a new pad at this guys house and asked if any of the cars were for sale, the guy initially said no, but than said that he did have another car that he would get rid of. And that was this car. I actually found a 1989 Phoenix Suns season ticket tucked up under the seat!!! Those finds are the best!

Ummmm I don't think so . But thank you for the complement!!! I have got about 100-150 hours in the cage to get it this far. While I probably will do other one for my 65 Corvair i'm not looking forward to it!

Umm.. yes and no. I stole the old LS6 that came out of his car, and I also copied his cage design almost right down to the T. The overall theme that he was going for was more of a late model performance by using the Due front end and the Dana 44 rear, along with now, the LS7. What I am really going for is to put up older based technology like solid axle w/ traction bars; updated global west front suspension with the updated steeringbox. I will be using 15" minilite wheels and basically stock "style" brakes front and rear. I may upgrade the rears to aluminum finned 11" drums but I am not sure yet. You can see that I'm even going to run long wheel studs for the right look From a distance I really want this car to look period. But as you get closer you will see the entire drivetrain has been updated. Will it be quicker around the roadcoarse than his? I don't know. A smaller course probably yes but as the straight aways get longer probably no. The other reason I don't want to follow in his footsteps is MONEY. I don't have the resources that he does!! But I do love the way his car came out. My dad always seems to pull of something that I originally looked at him and said that will never work and look good at the same time. I think that my ultimate goal with this car is to run the Silver State in the 100-110 mph class. Nothing too crazy if I like it I will probably build my Corvair to go faster. This will get my feet wet and see what it is like.

Thank your for the complements guys. I have only worked on the car a little bit over the last few weeks because I had finals to attend to which went well. I graduated from ASU with my last day of school being last wednesday!! I will try to remember to snap some shots of the rear bars but they come down through the package tray and land right on the rear subframe. I plan to basically make a cradle that will go through the floor and weld to the rear subframe to reinforce the top plate. And yes this is the very first time I have ever touched a bender or designed/copied my dads cage.
