Guldstrand Mod Fixture for the X1 Nova

Updated my web page with some pictures of the fixture Paul Ruggles designed and fabricated to relocated my upper control arm mounts. This thing is sweet. You have to love having friends that are more talented than yourself.

You can always tell when a Machinist is working on something by the use of the Socket Head Cap Screws. Looks good keep the pictures coming. What happened to the frame did it sit out side in the rain.

      Guld jig

Hi John, actually I have a similar jig. It was made up by my old boss for doing a stock looking Guldstrand mod. Doing the fab work before the blasting? Hows the Nova coming together? Please keep the pictures coming.

This subframe was chemically stripped and blasted, but there was a bit of a mishap resulting in it getting rained on .

      Guldstrand Fixture

I noticed in my DSE catalog, Paul Ruggles works for DSE. That fixture looks familiar. Does he still work for DSE?

      Enthusiast,
Good eye, and welcome to PT.com.
Paul Ruggles is a former DSE employee.

Paul's fixture uses the motor mount holes to locate the fixture such that the original mount can be cut off, modified, and rewelded such that the result is a shortened and repositioned stock upper mount without losing accuracy or position relative to the orginal geometry.
Yes the fixtures look similar, but Paul's fixture has a completely different function and solves a different problem. Holding a Guldstrand stencil up to the UCA mount and drilling holes is ugly and inaccurate. Ideally a fixture should be used for the best results.

As my web page and build progress, the work of others who have helped me out will be clearly noted.

I did just about the same last winter on my car. It workedlike a dream and didn't take very long time.

Just make sure that the jig is accurate.

      moving right along

Moving right along on the subframe. Paul cut and rewelded the factory mounts and cleaned up the nasty booger welds the factory slopped on.
Next step is to reinstall the shock mount.
