Door hinges - New vs rebuild kits
Are the rebuild kits as good and long lasting as the pre-assembled complete/new hinges that are available?
I want to update all 4 hinges.
In the Classic Industries catalog:
Upper hinge: $40 each
Lower hinge: $60 each
Rebuild kits, for 2 doors:
Upper: $17
Lower: $45

As long as your hinges aren't wallowed out I would just put in the pins and bushings. OEM is better than the best aftermarket anytime. You may still be able to buy the pins and bushings from your local chevy dealer. The pins and bushings have been the same for years. I may have a good used set buried around here somewhere for a reasonable price if you're interrested.

Rebuild them and you will be happier and you can get all of the parts you need at your GM dealer. If you can't then try all of the Camaro vendors and someone should have them anyway.

I installed the upper and lower rebuild kits from Classic Ind on my 69 Camaro and they came out really well. If you're not going for an exact restore, it would save you $150 bucks, plus you'll still have your stock metal hinges.

I bought repos, did the quarters,the body man asked if the hinges were orig or aftermarket, he said rebuild the origs and throw the others in the trash!

Classic's stuff... straight forward and simple... not to mention the price is right.

I replaced mine. The California Camaro repo fit great but the Hugger brand did not fit that well...
