      Mounting front springs

I'm putting in my front coil springs (69 Camaro). I thought I saw mention of some type of material put between the spring and the lower control are or frame. There wasn't anything there when I removed the older springs. But I thought I saw something when I did them on my past 69 camaro. A friend had something, but it was rotted beyond recognition and didn't put anything back in. I was thinking it was about 1/10th of an inch. I looked in a couple of parts catalogs and don't see anything. Asked my body shop and he gave me a tip of just putting some black hockey tape on the surfaces that touch.

The other thought is to have something to shim with, incase I have a 1/4 inch lean or something when I do the final assembly and drive the car to let it settle.

Any suggestions? I'd like to do this as soon as I can get my spindles that are on order. Com'on mr. T, can't wait....

There is no need for anything to go in the lower spring pocket. I would not worry about it. As for shimming, bad idea. The only way to have independednt side-side adjustment is with a coilover or landrum type adjuster. If you are using new spring (ie. Hotchkis) they are the same in height and material so if there is a difference in height side-side, ensure the springs are properly located in the upper and lower pockets. The spring does index at both locations.

Do you still believe in all the things that you stood by before? Are you out there on the front lines, or at home keeping score?
Do you care to be the layer of the bricks that seal your fate? Would you rather be the architect of what we might create?
