sorry to say, but it seems TOO nice to mod. I mean, does EVERY american '64-'72 car need the PT treatment? now, I know what forum this is, but messing w/ a car this perfect just seems wrong.
anyway, I would only do things to it that can be reversed; no mini-tubs, no sheetmetal cutting, no roll cage, no manual conversion. a vortech'd 302 would be cool w/ a modern AOD trans, and save the original.

btw, what happens to magazine cars when they are done?

Great Car. Torinocobra.com they should have answers on what fits/does not fit.

I say paint the top white, a steh blue will never match. Some side body white stripes like a 69 mach I to off set it.

I would go for the NASCAR look. Wendell Scott era Trino-rent the Pryor movie I think "...Lightning" on NASCAR pioneer WendallS CXott, i think they used a 70 Torino as a nascar. Put some call out CID on Hood, hood pins, rear spoiler-fabricated from sheetmetal with a trunk filled gas cap. Sort of like an R-Model 65 Shelby but full sized.

      That's an interesting idea!

I also don't really care for the white top, but, the car is BEAUTIFUL and a steal at 8000. Good catch!
I'm not much on keeping that 302 either. For the love of God, don't put a mod-motor in it!!!! I think a 429 (or 427) would be nice and nostalgic, but the 393 and Roush sound good too.

Take out the bench seat and put in something nice from Corbeau or Recaro or any of those guys. It's gotta have some blue in it to match of course.

I'd take a more NASCAR look over the PT look also....

It's numbers matching too.. can't wait to rip out it heart and do a transplant. lol

I only worry about "numbers matching" stuff when the car is rare and this isn't. Will most likely bag and save the original but then again who cares about an original 302?

And it's getting more of a Musclecar treatment rather than PT treatment, with a NASCAR sorta look. However, there will be no mini-tubs or outrageous treatment. Will be some sort of roll bar.. most likely a 4-point.

Some magazine cars, like Penny, are kept. Others are sold to fund the next project car. If I had room for a dozen cars (or even 3) I would keep them all.

It's just begging for the old-school NASCAR treatment.

considering that many of us have never seen one like that, I'd say it IS rare. I love seeing old unmolested 'common' cars. but that's just me. if I pick a project car, I'd rather 'save' a motorless rustbucket than cut up a 'virgin' car (ugh, that sounded gross!)

That is an awesome find Steve. Now it's time to see what the old Oval can handle.

Yea, but paint and body cost a FORTUNE do do and takes forever. You're much better off $$$ wise finding a gandma car and doing it.

Not that much cutting will happen.. just a bit (Bwahaahaa!) ;)

      Steve,

there is a Nascar restorer, I think Gene Felton, he may have some pics of old Torino NASCARs if you go that route.

One mag--yours ? (I read them all yours being the best) recently had a skecth of a early 70's Torino that was being doen by Steve Stroppe (Mopar guy I think). Had wicked look to it as well.

Paint the roof white and keep the vinyl trim. It was used a fair bit on Novas in the late '60s and early'70s. Doesn't look half bad and you don't have the usual concerns that you have with vinyl tops.
For the engine, howsabout an after market Windsor block stroked to 428 and use a pair of Edelbrock's Cleveland heads on it. The car has a fair bit of heft to it, so TKO or T56 for a tranny. Might be a good idea to lay a little extra lovin' on it too.
