      Buyer Beware

I just wanted to ask how common scams are on EBAY. I have been looking at a couple diferent cars and one in particular, 1968 Camaro RS/SS with a buy it now price of $9,600. The mind boggling part is that the pictures show a car that is fully restored. I don't know how to post a link to the sale but the color is green. It seems waaaaaay to good to be true.

Has anyone else noticed potential scams like this?

Real people selling stuff on e-bay aren't stupid. They know what they are selling is worth. In fact, it's more likely that they screwed some local yokel, and are reselling something they bought for a song at a swap meet or wrecking yard.

If it seems to good to be true, it is. That's not to say that you can't find a deal, but if the price is way off, it's going to be a scam 9 times out of 10.

Thanks. Sometimes I have to hear myself say it, or type it, to make sense of it.

scams usually give themselves away by requesting money transfers, like western union. ebay has tutorials on how to avoid getting ripped off. I only bought a car once on ebay (GMC safari from a dealer) but my wife and I have an ebay store and are familiar w/ the dangers/benefits. if you can set up a visit w/ the seller, where you can see the title and verify his ownership, you should be able to tell if its real or not.

I just received another email from the seller of another '68 which says he wants a win win sale, of course. He did want a third party to facilitate the transaction, for my safety of course. He also mentioned there are over 1 kilo in receipts. Seems as most of these are based out of the US.

i found the same thing about a hemi charger. only wanted 10,000 including shipping from italy. i emailed the guy and he said that all i had to do was western union the guy the money, send a designated person of my choice to go there and get the money and verify the car was legit. i phoned western union to ask about all this and they said that once the seller knows that the money is there, they can make a fake i.d. with my name on it and get the money no problem. they are not a bank. only for transfers. the second that money is in there it can be picked up by anyone with thier photo id and your name.
believe me its a scam. i almost fell for it.

a good friend bought a harley, ebay , was told it was being shipped by a transport , so he sent the money western union . the money was recieved ,the "transport co " was to get the money and pick up the bike ...... wrong .the transport co was the same as the seller . money =gone !

i got ripped on epay ,i bought a " rust free , new top , not a tear in the seats " 66 chevelle drop top . photos looked good , transport showed up with a free rust , new top installed with a desk stapler , duck tape seats spray painted . 8k lost because i did not use paypal i money wired him the money , the frame was rusted in 2 pieces under the seat and let the door fold over the 1/4 panels . i have got to use the roof ,top 2 in of the windshield post and the section arround the rear glass . thats it . i called the guy back he said " you should have looked closer , click" .
i bought a hard top and made it a drop top and it sits behind my office so i have to see it everyday !

Just because you use PayPal does NOT always mean you will get you money back......trust me I found that out the hard way on a Ducati engine.

I am going to leave that one alone.

But it does give you a clue about the nature of his sale. SCAM.
