One of my car friends was over at the shop today and I showed him this post about the best sleeper's. He wants to nominate his wife. He says she is the best sleeper he ever dated, drove, rode or married in his life.

He said she is a real sleeper with absolutely no performance.

I laughed for a half hour. I now understand why he always talks about his girlfriend Rosy!!!!!

      Favorite sleeper

Well my first was my 66 Dodge Dart GT, Slant 6 auto with a bazillion miles on it and an old Jasper Engines Engine in it, hah it has a std 10 ,20 30,40 and a 60 over piston in it. What a pile for an engine. So I was typical air shocks ,slots glass pack car and spun a rod down in my uncles home town. so I was off for spring break and he told me about a fella down the road who used to race slants. so we go down and he sells me a 1/2 in stroker, (with new rings and bearings) long rods and a set of .187 over pistons after he checked the block and a 170 head that has big valves and had been ported. We sent my 904 to TCI for some good stuff and a converter and he sold me a 7 1/4 shimmed tight center section and a set of 4.10's .Few towns over fella had "headers" old Ank split manifolds and a 2 4bbls intake 2 465 cfm holleys and a dual point converted dist. Let me tell you I made lots of hard cash with that baby.
Then I had a 69 Pontiac Executive with a 428 and 2.93 posi gears (better than the 273 airplanes ) and it ate peoples lunch in Indy in 85/86.
Then my latest toy is my daily driver 78 C10, 355roller, with air ride Technologies CoolRide and parralel 4 link. Runs 90 miles a day 5 days a week for last 2 yrs.And after having it together for about a mont I am driving to work from Bloomfield IN (home of bloomfield jacks) to Bloomington IN and I get up behind a friend who has a 01 Camaro and set of Eibachs and some aftermarket swaybars and shocks/struts and set of Goodyears I had sold him couple years before when iworked for a Gy dealer.Well coming out of Bloomfield he cranks it up and Idecide to stay behind him and hang with him.
Now this truck had 2557015 Firehawk Indy 500s and Hoosier Radial DT lug tires and never even though of sliding(well i did have lot of weight in bed) now dont ask why but it handled great BEFORE I ever heard of Brets street challenge.
Blew him and me away as we pulled over about 15 miles out of Bloomington as I had to get gas.
He came over and looked at my set up and now he is on ART too. Being an alignment tech for 18 yrs off and on and having done some ACR Neon setups in past I got ol truck handling good I just cant wait till I find me some Impalla SS wheels and put some real tires on her. In and around Bloomington i love getting the ricers on the on and off ramps and let them play,,, I just wave. I do love my 355 with the LT 4 hot roller and the air ride.
My next project is a combo 77 Monza/85 Pontiac GP PT pair. gonna have a 283 in Monza and a 402BBC in the GP (cause its what I got and it needs a storage spot too.). I thought I had a 8 port Hilborn old school bought and was going to whip up an electronic flex fuel ,fuel injection to adapt it but it slipped away. Still thinking of scratch building one but only time and money will tell.
I hope to have a bolt on flex fuel set up ready to swap on to anything real soon. But thats another story.
I just love my cars as they always bring out the real enjoyers of a little niche I lump my self in with, hot rodder, nont matter if we pro tour, gmachine, street fighter or pro show if you fix it up, modify it, or restore it, I give you props.
Oh well back to design work on my FI setup ,the fuel component sensor is kicking my ass as all the stock stuff is way too pricey so far.
Ah memories. Burn rubber, corners or fuel but lets keep making them.

I have several I took on the power tour, I can not find them main ones right now, but here is one I took at Engishtown, right before it made a pass. Also, here is a clip of it making a 10.02 pass.

      One bad bieatch.

Also in the clip is the Hot Rod/GM Solice, in NYC. Not a bad sleeper itself.

For me it's the Dodge Omni GLH. I had a bone stock '86 Monte Carlo SS and thought I was the s#!t at the time until this little black 4 door hatchback with groceries in the back seat and a little kid in the passenger's seat waving bye-bye as it left my suddenly humiliated a$$.

I think another interesting one would the be the '78-'79 era (I think ) Cadillac Sevilles. They were basically a Nova platform if I'm not mistaken, and they came with Olds 350s. Slap some Nova performance suspension stuff on that thing and nobody will see it coming from the little "grandma car" sitting next to them!

The most wickedest evil and underhanded sleeper in all of sleeperdom has got to be the Wheel to Wheel Nova that was featured in Hot Rod recently,as a few guys already pointed out.
I found a ton of great pics of the build here:

      http://www.w2wpowertrain.com/t-novabuild-2.aspx

The amount of time and effort expended to keep this machine looking like Grandma's old beater is amazing. Most amazingly it runs 9's and makes 1100hp with twin turbos and a very sophisticated octane-on-demand fuel system.

I got a better idea for a sleeper. Instead of an understatement put hillbilly and ricer stuff...

Imagine that a 9 second camaro, with mud grips, Pink neon light kit, APC stickers and the finishing touch Yosimite Sam mud flaps with Back OOOOffffffffffff.....

when i worked at super shops in the early 90's this guy came in with a plain white 75 or so nova with hubcaps and everything. we mounted up a set of 15x7 centerlines with m/t sportsman pro's out back and 215/70 touring TA's up front. he came outside and said "that looks pretty good" and then slapped the hubcaps back on it!!!!! talk about making a bunch of gearheads cry!!! just the sound was like fingernails on a chalkboard. well, he pulls the thing outside and it goes from this really quiet, docile idle to a really mean nasty idle all of a sudden and then the car disappeared in a cloud of white smoke.

he pulled it back in the shop and opened the hood. it had a plain orange BIG BLOCK a big block but even the it was very unassuming. it was an LS6 out of a totalled 70 chevelle that had been very worked over. bored out to a 468, hidden nitrous system UNDER the intake and another small plate system under the carb also well hidden. heavily ported heads, intake and exhaust manifolds (NO headers) turbo 400 and a 12 bolt with 4.88 gears. he was running a single 2.5" exhaust out the back but he had cable operated cutouts to another 3" system that terminated at the rear axle.

this car was the ultimate sleeper it didn't even have a tach or any other gauges in it, just a speedo and stock idiot lights. he showed timeslips for low 11 second ET's with something like 2.5 second 60 foot times so you know the car was just blazing the tires off the line.

i'll never forget that car as long as i live.

I was pretty happy when my sleeper '81 Malibu 4DR put out 501rwhp and 470rwt without trying either of the nitrous stages. This is all on 7.2# of boost, and there's a lot left in the car that will come out this winter.
