      Pleasent surprise from Stewart Warner

Just started installing the new guages. The only reason I went with new ones is because most of the old ones were mechanical and electric are easier to use with an LS2.

Anyways, I expected the guages to be the typical perimiter lighting deal. I was very happy to see they are "glow through" design like a modern car. Very easy to read.

I was also impressed with their LED system. All you do is remove the bulb and plug in a small circut board with 2 or 4 LEDs on it. Pretty slick idea. You use a board with 4 LEDs for a large guage and one with 2 LEDs for a smaller guage so the lighting is consistent. I got red but they come in many colors.

Anyways, just thought I would share..

Looks Sweet Steve! I have one of the SW boost gauges in the Supra and the led is sweet. Plus their one of the only companies making a boost gauge that goes to 40psi...

That looks real nice and being able to pick colors is good too. The Nexus gauges I was going to use had changeable colors at the touch of a button but hey you can't even get them so I have to make another choice and those might be it. I keep looking at the racepac setup but it isn't as display wow factor as those but I can get up to 32 sensors displayed by scrolling and the alerts come up when the parameters get out of range so it is going to be a hard decision to make coming up if Autometer doesn't come through with a sweetheart return deal and all of the gauges I want.

We will see! Thanks for the pics.

Yea, I wanted the Nexus stuff too but they have hardly any sizes and many of the commonly needed ones aren't out yet. Too much hassle.

SW does have a "chameleon" deal where you can change the color of the guages at will via a dash control. Pretty cool and not expensive.

I wish you could set a threshold on these where they flash of change color if "out of spec".. that was the nicest part of the Nexus stuff.

The SW guages had a huge selection of sizes and stuff. Autometer now has the SPORT COMP II and PRO COMP II that have a "glow through" system like this. The problem was that many of the sizes and types were not out yet. I wish they would release all the line at one time or at least all the common ones.

I was very happy with the quality of the SW stuff.

The SW Maximum series gauges are definately nice. The illuminated numerals are nice... now they need to go the rest of the way and offer illuminated needles too. It can't cost *that* much-- VDO does it on their vision gauges, which have some of the best night-illumination of any aftermarket gauge out there IMO short of the likes of Defi, and they pull it off at a VERY reasonable price point.

The new AM SC2/UL2/Cobalt gauges all offer illuminated numerals & needles but my biggest gripe with them is the same gripe I have with most AM gauges-- the gigantic "SPORT COMP II" lettering on the face of the gauges. I care about the gauge reading, not the brand and style! LOL.

Looks good though. How about a daytime pic?

The needles light up pretty good in person with the LEDs.. I guess they catch the perimeter light.

Here's the LED board. All you do is unplug the bulb and plug in the LED color of your choice. This is a 4-LED board. Oh, you line up the + on the board with the white (hot) wire.

Steve I started a new thread wanting to know if I could use my original 69 Camaro gauges with an LSx but you say the electrical are easier. Those SW are really cool. I would like to see a larger pic of the dash and gauges, maybe I'll switch.

Well the speedo will depend on the transmission you get. The rest of the guages in a '69 will work but you will need to adapt the SAE threads of the sensors to the metric holes in the block, but it can be done. Are the factory '69 guages mech or elec? I would think you could use the factory guages with the LSx if you wanted to.

Or just get a DSE dash and some aftermarket suff

Electircal with an LSx is easier since it was designed around electrical guages..

I have seen these SW guages a while back along with the AM's but neither had a speedo or tach to go with it.
I wnt hem as well but I want the 5" speedo and tach to go with it

BTW the Dana is narrowed another 2" and the lateral Dynamics stuff is being wrapped around it as I get time.

Sure.. it will be a few days till I'm at the shop. Also, I have to mount them in the Covan's dash.

They look exactly like the other guages except bigger. I have the 200mph speedo and the 8000rpm tach both in the 3.x" size. I know they make the 5" but I'm no sure if it comes in 200mph.

Very nice looking, so when do you think you'll be able to lay the hammer down hard, and watch the the fuel quantity react.

The numbers looks good, but it looks like the needle is hard to see. It would be nice if the needle would lite up like newer factory cars do too.

The sam box will let you use any t56 with your stock speedo. It reads the speed sensor and drives the cable with an electric motor.

I bought these gauges in Silver, are the LED's worth getting ( brighter ), and can you still use the colored caps with the LED's? I noticed the green made it harder to see the needles.
