      69 camaro motor mount question

      Hi,
can someone answer a simple question for me. Is there a difference between 396 BBC motor mounts or 454 BBC motor mounts??

I am in the process of building a 69 camaro with a 454/TH400 combo. I need to buy motor and frame mounts and everytime I look the motor mounts up they say they are for a 396 in a 69 camaro. I don't see how there could be a major difference but I dunno. any help me shed some light on this??? thanks in advance.

I know that i need BB frame mounts, but does it matter if I buy 396 BBC motor mounts etc. or any BBC 69 camaro motor mount will work?

69 Camaro's never came with a 454, so they won't be listed in any parts book. The 396 listing should work for you.

Are you sure that the frame mounts are the same for and small block and a big block? Because they are like $40 difference is price and it look like the mounting holes are different.

I know that 454's never came in a 69 camaro but if 396 mounts will work then that will be great. thanks.

I had both a 327, 350 and 454 in my car before I went to the ls1. I used the stock mounts that were in the car with the same Moroso solid mounts for all 3 with no problems. Randy

you read it wrong, protc said that the 454 and 396 would be the same mount. statement above is correct.

ok I now have a new problem.

I purchased BBC motor mounts for a 396 which should work fine on my 454. I also purchased small block frame mounts since it seemed that they were the same thing as BB frame mounts just cheaper.

The problem is that the frame mounts are wider than the motor mounts and they don't line up? DO I NEED BB FRAME MOUNTS NOW INSTEAD?????

ANY HELP WOULD BE APPRECIATED, I AM THINKING ABOUT CUTTING AND WIDENING THE MOTOR MOUNTS JUST TO MAKE THEM WORK. BUT IT WOULD BE NICE TO KNOW WHAT THE PROBLEM IS. THANKS

the small block frame mounts are not the same as the big block. you can use them but you will have a hard time putting the bolt through the hole. youll have to pry it into place. trust me i did this before i knew there was a differance.now as for the motor mounts not fitting down on the frame mounts i had the same problem.i ended up going to the gm dealer ship and ordering motor mounts. i have 3 sets i bought that should have worked but wouldnt fit down on the frame mounts.classic industries offers two mounts for 69 big blocks 1- part number t82225 type 1 2-7/8 wide number 2- part number t82283 type 2 2-1/4 wide so check yours. classic industries phone number 1 800 854 1280 tell them barry at midwest muscle car restoration parts sent you

I think David Pozzi has some mount info on his site that might be useful.

you need the frame mounts the bb ones lower the motor about a inch and to the passenger side just a bit you can use the sb ones but you will have to beat the headers up a bit

Well, I guess that i will have to send the frame mounts back and hopefully swap them out for the BBC frame mounts instead. I think that I am stuck with the motor mounts though. The ones that I have are 396 motor mounts and have around a 2 1/4" mounting area. I don't know if I need to swap out the mounts now too but I think that i do. The only problem is I can't return them, I will have to just purchase new ones. I think I paid about $50 for em. As long as i get the correct BBC frame mounts, will they work with the motor mounts that i have?? thanks in advance for clarifying. I appreciate everyones help.

69 BB frame brackets position the engine 1" to the passenger side for better steering box clearance. The transmission mount is also offset 1" for either the TH400 or four speed. The SB trans mount is on-center.

Just as a question of interest to me. Are the frame mounts used to mount a 307 in a 69 Camaro the same as the 327/350 frame mounts used in a 69 Camaro?

I ask this question because 307 frame mounts are different than 327/350 frame mounts used in 69-72 Chevelles. I always thought a small block was a small block when bolting the engine in a Chevelle but that is not the case with a 307 in a 69-72 Chevelle. The frame mount for a 307 in a 69-72 Chevelle is unique!
