      Corvette C4 angle?

Is it right to suppose that the halfshafts on my Dana44 c4 corvette rear are to point straight out (seen from above), or should I point them a some degrees rearward rearward to be sure to always have an angle at the u-joints?

      thanks!

      Hi Andre,
      how ya been?

I had 2 up on the 4 post rack for inspection for the same reason. It seems factory had a slight angle rearward (3-7 degree). Most likely for u joint life and NVH. Are your half shafts stock or narrowed?

Hey man, its been a while

Its an 85 rear and its not narrowed.
To me it looks like hub is to be 1 3/4" rearward compared to the center section.
I havent measured any degrees though.

      Andre/MrQuick,

I'll be out in the shop to check this, but doesn't the lower link that goes between the diff and the hub assembly set that angle for you?

      thx,

      Thanks Jeff,

Unfortunately it doesnt as you are able to move the hub several inches if its not set to the car.

      I appreciate your effort!

      Maybe I'm missing something...

      Just a follow-up..........

Set up the suspension on my chassis table, and there is indeed a ~3 degree sweep rearwards on the suspension. The lower control arm that goes out from the diff to the hub locates things pretty solidly. I didn't notice any movement/deflection fore/aft. Comparing all my other measurements that I took from a stock C4, I'm pretty sure that I got everything assembled properly.

Like I said, maybe I'm missing something, but it looks like there is a little rearward sweep to the halfshafts. That intentional misalignment coupled with the slight (~2 degree) "droop" in the halfshafts is all probably there intentionally to keep the u-joints happy.
