      c6z brake calliper location problem...

Well... after having nothing but problems i decided to do the one thing thats a no brainer, brake jobs.

All was going well and then when i put the caliper on i saw something that didnt look at all right... the brake pads hang over the end of the rotor by about 1/3 of an inch!

The brake pads are located correctly (there is no way not to) and all the parts are correct...

Everything is on there right and torqued down, so just to make sure im pretty much ****ed?

If anyone wants a 68 ls1/t56 irs etc etc etc car shoot me an offer im just done with this crap, ive spent every penny ive made the last 2 years on this thing and once its done nothing but more problems!

And that extra pic is what my left rear wheel adapter looked after the drive home from the shop...

Dumb question: Is it the right size rotor? Are you using a 12" instead of a 13" rotor? No offense, just thought I would ask.

It looks you have the proper clearance between the rotor and the caliper. Brake pads have to be wrong, judging by the picture.

if you are judging by the rib on the right its just an optical illusion there is a 3/4" gap there. and the pads and everything are gm bought through a gm dealer...

Brian, I'll trade the proper 14" rotor for what you have. It save you some trouble shipping them back....gm parts direct?? I'll check on availablity tomorrow morn. And i'll find out the price diff.

what is the part number that you have?
Should be GM PART # 19121787 for C6Zo6

Haha yea well I havent given up, however I am decided on selling the car. Im getting it all ready to hit the road. It sucks but its the best thing, even if i had the money for it i dont have the time to fix it, let alone the money for a house with a garage to keep it safe in. And im sure theres someone out there dieing for a car like it.

However Im putting away the money so that when im out of college I can start up a new build, hopefully a bit wiser for the wear. And im sure with all that ill learn between now and then it will be 10x the car this is!

      Ahh how i love this!

so after getting another set of the wrong rotors shipped to me over a week later (having paid the extra money for express shipping no less) I got the right rotors yippee!

And now the caliper to rotor depth is wrong (the rotor sits too far out) Ive never heard of anyone having this problem with the c6z brakes so i dont really want to shim out the caliper if the issue is something else...

anyone got any ideas, im back to wanting to take a shotgun to the peice of crap....

(being dropped off at college by my mom because my hot rod wont work is getting REALLY old)

      FINALLY!!!!

As it turns out for whatever reason there is a bit of a taper on the inside of the hat of the rotor, so even though it looked like i had plenty of clearance on the outer lip it was binding.

Now to spend 5 hours bleeding the brakes....

Dude, if you need a hand let a fella know. I have plans tonight, but if you'd asked yesterday I would have been more than happy to roll up there and give you a hand.
