09-18-2006 #2Yea, this has been all over the finance news today. A new CEO just stepped in for Ford recently so there are changes in the works for Ford. I'm not sure how much of this is just 'creative talk' by a new CEO to prove his place or if Ford is really looking to merge. I would highly doubt a new CEO would try to work a merge deal for Ford in this first year. I can see them trying to aquire some other brand though.
GM would never go for it either. To much shake up at top and the anti-trust issue would be a pita to get around. I do see GM and Ford working much closer together in the future to create better products and outperform the rest of the world market. They've lost a major foothold in the world auto market and need to do so something FAST before they loose all market share.
I remember reading something last year where every GM car is earmarked with over $3,000 per vehicle to pay for past employee pension funds.~Ryan
