Quick Ratio Steering Box Power Ratio

So I know that the quick ratio steering box reduces the amount of turns from lock to lock but does that also include a power ratio, by that I mean is there a noticeable reduction in the amount of force required by the user to turn the steering wheel even without powersteering, the reason I am asking is because I was thinking about changing to the quickere ratio steering box for my manual steering. I want to know if that alone reduces the force required to turn the wheel at low speeds or is a powersteering box really necessary. I am just considering it because I am still in the process of an engine build and am considering vacuum pressure for the powersteering and air conditioning, power brakes, etc.

That is tunable by changing the bypass valve in the steering box itself. The standard is around 30-35 lbs..... but can go either way in 5 pound increments.

So what you are saying is that with a good upgraded steering box like the one from ATS I can reduce the amount of force required to turn the steering wheel in my manual steering car without having to convert to powersteering. How much better will it be compared to my stock steering in the 68 camaro?

      Woah.

First, the ATS box is a power unit... not a manual unit.

A manual unit's effort is a combined factor of gear ratio and the steering arm length's. Yes, you can imporve and have a manual box that is easier... but no where near a power box.

The only way to actually reduce effort with a manual unit is to go with a rack and pinion... which is really a waste of time and money, unless your chassis and/or frame is already set up for it.

      Agr

I have an AGR 12:1:1 box and I like it a lot--it's tight and quick, but doesn't steer too easily, perfect for high-speed driving...it's almost as good as some rack-and-pinion setups I have driven.

BTW I got it from Summit racing.

I have a Z/28 quick steer power box that is practically new with less than 100 miles on it that I'm will sell with a new rag joint. It was on my 69 with PS. Definitely go power! The difference will amaze you.
