PCV inside a AN hose or fitting?

      Hi,

from my one valvecover to the intake manifold I'll run a PCV valve but I'd like to hide it inside an AN hose or fitting to avoid using the ugly rubber grommet, have any of you tried this??

are there different sized PCV valves around?

      thanks!

EDIT: A PVC valve is NOT the same as a check valve, soory for the bad idea:(

wow, that I dont know..... but a ball valve should be pretty fast as well...
but I know that without any valve in case of an engine backfire it might ingnite the crankcase gases and blow the thing apart.....

I don't think you want to do that. Please see here: http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/s...ad.php?t=61376 it explains the PCV system thoroughly complete with a cutaway PCV valve and an explanation of how it works.

Thanks for replying, I read the article (very nice) and didnt find the reason to not use a ball check valve.
is is due to the different flowing rate of the pcv at different vacum?

      thanks!

Yes. I believe your engine will see a massive vacuum leak at idle. The PCV actually flows LESS under high vacuum (idle) and MORE under low vacuum (wot or heavy load) because the shuttle inside the valve is pulled farther into the orifice with increasing vacuum.

considering that you are probably right.
Since I already have it I'll give it a try anyway and see if it causes a major vacum leak.

Sorry about the bad information, thanks for the good link on PVC valves!

I felt so bad for leading you astray that I went to the autoparts store and they let me look through thier selection of PVC valves.

Purolator PV1020 looks like 2 barbed hose ends butted together. One end is made for a 1/2" diameter hose and the other end is made for a 3/8" diameter hose. The biggest part of the body is .594" in diameter.

You might be able to slipit completely inside a #10 AN hose.

If you turned it down on a lathe or even just filed it down in the center it would definitely fit completely inside a #8 AN hose

Take a look on my website at the engine picture. In the LH valve cover I use a modified AN "el" that has a GM PCV check ball setup installed. I purchased it from a local hot rod shop. I know where it is but I don't remember the name. If interested, I can stop by there next week and find out if they still carrry them.

yeah I have looked at it but I do not like it, ts not to be a picky ass but I dont want the grommet style....
I do indeed really appreciate your suggestions here

As for now the idea is to have one AN-10 weld bung in each valve cover, then stick the PCV inside the AN-10 hose that goes to the manifold (as John suggested), the other AN-10 would go to a Moroso breather tank on the firewall.

      Carl, that is clean.

This is the best pic I see: http://www.geocities.com/casanoc/alt_1.JPG

I've always liked those covers. Did you have any problems with the PCV setup and oil? I've had issues in the past with non-baffled covers - PCV draws oil mist in, and oil out the breather too. But I never tried taller ones like those.

is there any reason that you couldn't mount it the verticle surface on the back of the valve cover.
