      Rims & Tire Noobe questions

      Hi,
To many of you these questions might sound stupid but I know there is a lot of helpful people here who can help me out.
First off I get very confused when it somes to rims and tires and do not under stand them at all.

      Now for the questions.
Right now I have a completly stock 1973 dodge dart swinger. I plan on upgrading some but nothing crazy. So the rims and tires would have to fit in to the stock location.

What I was wondering is if these would fit my car,
      http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/17-PO...21783957QQrdZ1

I know the bolt pattern will fit,(right now I have front disc and my bolt pattern is 5 x 4.5) What I am not certin of if the back spacing and if the bigger rim will fit.

Also what tire size would be recomended.

And lastly, I was wondering if anyone know where I can get a different center peice so that is is nothing mustang, or would I would have to get them custom made.

If you guys and gals need me to take any measurement I can do so.

      Thanks for you help,
      -Mike

Not sure of an exact number on a Chrysler, but on 60s Mustangs and Cougars, those wheels need bolt-on spacers approximately 3/4 to 1" thick to make the backspacing around 4-3/4" to work without hitting on the inside. From what I remember about my 67 Dart (25 years ago), a similar amout of backspacing would be needed.

Hopefully some of the Mopar guys on here will pipe up. Those low rear wheel openings on the Darts can be a tough fit.

the offset of the wheels generally need to be around 0... instance... on a 15x8 wheel... you need roughtly 4-4.5" of backspacing.... 15x7 needs roughly 3.75-4" of backspacing

So from the two responses that I have gotten, I guessing that I would need a spacer. Is this correct? What size spacer would I need exactly? Also if possible does someone have a link to a website where i can get one?

Best way to determine spacer size for your application, is to measure your car. I think it was Car Craft magazine that had an article in a recent issue that was a very good guide for determining wheel fit on your own vehicle.

One source for adapters is here:

Eibach, H&R, and at least a few other companies offer them as well.

The one Valiant owner I know who's running Cobras is using .75" spacers to give him 5" of backspacing.
