      Provair's engine is almost done.

      Time for an update.

      From this dirty nasty engine:

      To this:

modded oil fill, I used a freeze plug to fill the hole the original neck was in, and a boat plug as a new oil cap in the former fuel pump spot, I removed the original filler neck that sticks up about 8 inches. The original design just looked horrible. I've also used a 90 degree adapter so the filter is easyer to change.

it's supposed to look like this.

I'l have it in this weekend.

Looking pretty good Tony. I've seen some nice Corvairs floating around from time to time but not to many. Keep the pics coming. Bet you can't wait to hear it start.

its a 140 that's been punched out .60 over, hot cam, ported heads, worked carbs and electronic ignition. Should put out over 180 to 190 hp. dont sound like much? dont forget how light the engine is, as well as the car.

It takes a sizeable hp small block to make up for the weight gain. It'll be just enough this way. Im not willing to sacrifice the back seat for an engine.

That's why I skipped the small block

Turbo that thing then. They made a turbo kit for it back in the day I thought.

Actually the turbo sucks. Its horrible to drive. It only has the "180" hp when in boost above 3500 rpm. otherwise it's only pushing 85 hp. And that's HORRIBLE.

The real trick is to take todays turbos, throttle bodys, and fuel injection and then introduce them to my little six cylinder friend here.

Plans are already in the works. that or a procharger.

Damn Tony, now yer talkin' !!!! I've seen a couple of Vairs turbo'ed with a modern carb and turbo. The owners said that the old system couldn't hold a candle to the modern stuff. The engines were also better built to handle the boost. One owner was happy enough with the Holley four (draw through) that he tossed his plans for injection.

      wow, quite a transformation..

The key seems to be power to weight..

the car? just about 2000 lbs. (one with a crown v8 is 2750 lbs) the corvette of the era weighed 3700 lbs.
the stock engine and transaxle is only 450 lbs.
