Cost or average hours for installing mini tubs / subframe

Sorry to start this thread as I know it's sometimes relative to where one lives. But, I want to know what is the usual cost or hours for installing a mini tub (DSE kit) on a 68 fire bird in Illinois. I was quoted a price and hours to day and it seemed alot higher than I would expect. Then again, none of my previous cars requird modification like this. I have never been a welder and don't feel comfortable doing it my self but don't want to get tasken to the cleaners either.

If I remember right, DSE says 23 hours.

//Edit// Oops, the 23 hours was for the Coilover Kit.

I am fairly certain DSE is at closer to 50 to 60 with the crossmemeber, + 6 for the subframe connectors. It is about right, we have done half a dozen sets, it is a all week job finished, wheel wells, trunk and floor coated.

How much were you quoted? How many hours?

      Ditto.

My shop here in Dayton Ohio was $50/hr. Very satisfied with the results too.

Mini tubbing a car is not an easy thing for a shop to do, it's significant in the amount of work to be done. With the first gen cars and the DSE tub kit, it's a bit easier, but still a relatively big job. A LOT of cutting, and a damn good amount of reconstruction in the end. No question, the DSE tubs help, especially if the old metal is really bad to begin with, but not completely necessary if the old metal is salvageable. In all other cases other than the first gen F cars, to get the "factory" look, well, it's fab time. We've done a few second gen F body cars, and some earlier Mopar projects in the last few months, all with about the same amount of hours. I'd be happy if the shop quoted at or less than 40 hours, billable. 50 is not unreal. It all of course depends on the shop rate, and how good the work is done. Of course, look at the padding too, i.e. the $$ charged on materials, etc.

Demand up front that they understand the end quality before they begin....
