Pool Enclosures

The wife made me promise her an inground pool after my garage gets built. Now since we live in Ohio, I cannot forsee spending 20-30K on something you can only use 3 months out of the year.

This might sound a little rediculous, but does anyone have any experience with pool enclosures? We are still about 4 or 5 years away from the pool thing, but I figured I would look into it.

Convince her to get a hottub instead. You'll get a lot more use out of that up here! My friend has an above ground pool that maybe gets used 10 times a year, it's totally not worth it.

I'll secong that! I tore out a large (16x20) above ground pool a couple years ago. With all the maintainence, and little amount of use it was just not going to be worth it.

Don't know about an enclosure but def get a gas heater. I have a few friends with them and they use the pool from april to october here in Jersey....

I have tried that. She really likes to swim a lot. Her parents live about 3 miles away and they have an inground that gets used just about everyday by them and she is over there just about every weekend....unfortunately they are retiring and moving in 5 years :(

there are some great solar pool heaters out there. Lotsa little black tubes that go on your roof that the water runs through.

and get a saltwater system. It's the best thing EVAR!!!

..... and find a way to insulate the damned thing. I would think that would be a no-brainer, but I've never seen or heard of anyone doing it. I mean think about it, the surrounding ground is 45 to 55 degrees and you're trying to heat the pool to 85 or 90? Two or three inches of insulating foam will make it a lot easier to heat the pool, and in a cooler climate that can add quite a few days of usage.
And I second the salt water idea.

Thats what we've been thinking of , my wife wants one too but I told her it had to be enclosed, out here in mass it would be covered in leaves and snow most of the time lol . Those look cool !!!

Ahh, the hidden costs of our hobby....

If it makes you feel better, I have found nothing cleans under the fingernails like 30 minutes in the pool.

Well since your parents are moving in 5 years, you could always sell your house and buy theirs!! This way you have a pool all set to go.

Or you could spend a boat load of money on a pool and another bunch on an enclosure. Lucky for me my neighbor just put a pool in his backyard and had to use my driveway and part of my lawn in order to get the excavation equipment in. It only cost him replacing the damage and a separate gate entrance from my yard into his

In-ground pools are a lot more money than $20,000. If I were you I'd save myself $10-$20,000 and get in above ground pool and bury it half way. Then have the deck of your pool be an extension off the deck on the back of your house. That is of course, if you have a deck back there. I have seen this done, my brother-n-law has this set up. Looks sweet.

Buy their house, and build a new (bigger garage.
