      Wilwood Brakes Kit question

I am ready to order my brake kit. I have decided on a Wilwood kit for my 1969 Camaro http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2336217.

I chose this kit because I still have 15" Cragar Street Star Wheels, my goal is to put on 17"'s in the next year. The rotors are 11.75" which I think are the biggest that will fit the 15" and will still look good behind 17" wheels. Any thoughts or experiences with these brakes ? I have the option of getting the Brakes w/Forged (for $200 more) or Dynalite calipers, both 4 piston but Forged are longer.

Has anyone ordered from Hot Rods USA, the guy has been very helpful and has responded to my emails and answered all my questions ?

      Thanks...Jim

I put the 12.19" kit inside a set of 15" Torq Thrust Ds.

Jim, I have ordered from him before but stopped doing so because it takes so long to receive an order. He has the brakes dropped shipped from Wilwood but the problem is he takes a few weeks to place the order and in the meantime he still has your cash. It happened to me three times. Now I order from GP Superstore.

I sent Cragar an e-mail to see if the 12.19" would fit my 15" Street Star Wheels. I really don't mind if I have to wait a few weeks to get the kit (Hot Rod USA). Summit is a good place to get parts, but when I emailed them and asked about a Wilwood kit they told me I should buy another brand, anyway the kit I have been looking at has the 11.75" rotors and I can't locate this kit on Summit kit # HBK2416701ZFSLD. I also need master cylinder/power booster, 2" drop spindles, brake lines & accessories, proportional valve. Since I am working the car towards Pro-Touring I want to put on the best parts, but still get the best value.

How can I be positive the 12.19" will fit, maybe the TTD'S will handle the 12.19" but will the Cragars nothing worse than finally getting to order the brakes you want and finding out they do not fit ?

Well, I don't know if Wilwood does this (my experience was sheer luck), but some companies such as Baer have templetes available for download from their website. You literally print it out and cut along the dotted line - then fit it inside your rim.

I have no idea if the 12.19" Wilwoods would fit your Cragars - different rims have different drop centers. I do know, however, that the Wilwood calipers are extremely compact vs. other calipers.

      Perhaps send Wilwood an email?

I also sent Wilwood an E-mail today when I sent one to Cragar. I have been to their site, didn't see any templates, but I would say they should have them available. Which calipers are those in your pictures ? Dynalite, Forged ? 4 Piston?

I will look in to this...Thanks

Unfortunately I've found Wilwood customer support to be lacking. I had much more luck on the phone with Baer for another project. Hopefully Wilwood can help you though. If not, maybe I can help you with some measurements off my rims, if you need.

Those are Dynalite 4 Piston calipers.

The kit is Wilwood part # 140-7017 for Mustang II spindles.

Try www.superiorspindles.com, they sell a 12.19" kit with 2"dropped spindles. And I have also had the 12.19" (with DynaliteII) inside a 15" wheel. But better to be safe than sorry offcourse, so wait for the reply from Cragar.

Jim I lve 20 miles from Wilwood and when I was waiting for the c4 kit to come out the rep at wilwood told me that Jegs Is the largest Buyer and therfore gets the Largest discount.
I called Jegs and ordered from them I paid like 1200 for the 13" 6 piston c4 kit and they were dropshipped to my door in less than a week.

      Wilwood Pizza Dishes

Not sure if you have already ordered your brakes up, but I got my 12.19" Wilwood kit from HotRodsUSA, no problems with the service. The kit was there and complete. They even threw in 2 stainless lines and a proportioning valve. I haven't installed them yet. I can tell you that while my buddies were worried about the caliper size (4-piston), when I received them I realized that the caliper was actually smaller and less wide than the factory one. I can't say how it would fit with the factory Cragars, but I know that with a smaller diameter rotor I would have had no problems installing on my factory 15" snowflakes.
      Hope this helps.

I highly doubt the 12.19" rotor would fit any stock 15" rim, but I can't say for sure because I haven't installed mine yet. Once I get them installed I will try throwing one of my old snowflakes on just for grins.

I was simply stating before that I think the Wilwood 4-piston caliperI have is small enough in size, I think it would fit on the stock 11'' rotors with 15" snowflakes no prob.

PLEASE drop me a line when you try them! I like to occassionally throw on the snowflakes. 1988 16x8 GTA wheel look pretty good and are ALOT lighter though. I'm prestty sure guys are using the 12" 1LE rotor with 15s. 12" brakes came on big cars with 15" wheels also.

I would generally expect with all of the "cool guy" Willwood dealers in here.... that they could of at least helped you with this.

The wheel fitment and hard numbers are in the instruction PDF's.

For a 1969 Camaro with OE disc/drum your PDF is: http://www.wilwood.com/PDF/ds448.pdf
