Anyone use hydroboost? problems?

I plan to install hydroboost on my t/a but am leary about it failing such as a belt breaks or something with the power steering pump goes. will the brakes fail totaly or wil they just be hard? can regular vacuum boosters handle large brakes?

The Hydroboost has a built up storage so when the engine dies or belt breaks there are still a few good stops left in it.

Myself I plan on the purchase but have not yet but from what Ive heard from people that have they love them. What a great way to upgrade a set of brakes.

I have the Hydroboost setup on my 67 Camaro and after about 2000 miles it is something that I would HIGHLY recommend, not only does the system work better than advertised, the customer support is better than anywhere I have ever called, and I have called a lot of places!

Exactly!!! Since I have installed mine I have yet to stomp on the brakes, but then theres no need to the car just stops instantly!

The brake pedal rod goes straight thru to the master cylinder. The booster just helps you push on it.

Go to the website or call Paul at (586)427-6970. Check out the videos on the site and you will be sold. Our HMMWV's have the same deal, all diesel p/u's and my VW TDI too. I would be more weary of depending on vacuum than hydraulics. I have never had a ps pump go out suddenly, I have lost vacuum to the vacuum booster. It is a scary experience.

Unless a better technology is introduced I won't build another pro-touring type car without one. Though mine is not a Hydratech unit, Paul is a great guy with a great product.

seems like this is the way to go. may question is what is the difference between the hydratech unit compared to one off a truck? seems the truck ones dont fail, so why not get a used set up since you need a different steering pump and line anyway. just trying to view some pros and cons here. i have seen the videos and website and think hydratech has a great product

Check Carl's site. He used a Cobra unit, and other guys here have used truck/tahoe/Escalade units. Do a search and you can find a wealth of info.

The new MC that I got with my brakes is a 1" bore. I have the Baer 6 piston calipers front and rear. What do you recommend?

Smaller bores are for Manual brakes (varying on piston volume in the calipers) and Larger for Power assist (again, varying on piston volume in the calipers). I say take Paul's advice. It sounds right to me and he is the expert. See how many times here he has even helped non Hydroboost customers do ion depth trouble shooting. That is an A++++ car guy!!

Nick Thanks for replying so quick. I didn't explain myself very well after rereading my post. I was intending on taking Paul's advice and have already returned the baer unit to them. I was looking for a hint on a part number or particular mc to buy to save myself some legwork LOL Thanks a lot

I have a 72 4X4 blazer with 35" boggers and 3/4ton running gear
It has a 454 in it with a solid roller cam .640 lift and 24X 24x @ .050" lift on a 112 lobe center
This truck was like trying to push a brick wall to stop it.
I got a wild hair in my arse and went to the junkyard and bought an 82 1 ton gmc Diesel hydroboost & master cyl, I modified it to work on my truck in about 2 hours and WHOAAAAA
It will straight lock all fours up with your pinky toe.
It cost me about 200 bucks total incl 50 bucks for the hydroboost and master the rest was an fittings and high pressure stainless an line
I DIT NOT change the power sterring pump
I just t'd the return lines
Next I will buy a rebuild kit and rebuild it for S**t's and giggles
then replace the master as well for a new one

My hydroboost came from a 2003 GMC Sierra 3/4 ton. It went in without a problem and the lines were the main cost of the project. I went with -6 braided lines with hydraulic fittings and they had to be made. All I can say is that it stops like a champ with the stock fronts and disc rears. I can not wait until my 4 piston front and rear calipers are installed...it should grab like an animal!

This was by far the best upgrade I did on my 69 442.

The only problem/issue that I have with mine is, my eyeballs keep hitting the back of the front windshield when braking. But boy do I love it!!! I don't know why I waited so long to have my camaro's brakes upgraded. It should have been the first thing I did. It is an awsome system and I love it.

I have the new Baers 6 piston front and rear with the hydroboost and the 1-1/8 bore master . It works great !!!!! this thing stops so freaken fast , I love it
